ha! that looks crazy. This dog is a little over a year so she's not a puppy but she's still a chest thumping little hoodlum.

I have heard it's good to have two so they can play with each other etc. But I have also heard that once you have two then they stop being so focused on you. You are still loved but not the center of their universe.

hmm - a big change like that for a 10 year old may be a bit much - there cold be some aggression toward the new dog.
I live in a 2 dog household (2 boxers, one turns 10 in a few days;; the other turns 10 in a few months), and will probably always have 2 dogs, but probably wouldn't spring a new brother/sister on them at that age - depends on his personality.

a puppy will annoy your dog. I'd only do it if your dog were guaranteed to be dominate. there are certain things to help that, like feeding your dog first.

I have a friend who has two dogs now, and the concern they have is when a dog that becomes older its harder for them to respect other dogs. For them as they are planning for a baby, they wanted to train their older dog about being open to a new member of the family and getting a second dog was a great way to mellow the older dog out. I forget what is considered too old though. The two dogs they have though really brought some energy into the older dog and it seems to work well!

thanks guys. Yeah, I have heard that 2nd dog gives new life to first dog. My dog used to live with a border collie and they played all the time...but that dog also pushed my dog around a little. I just don't want to make her life miserable.

This is a rescue, amulins. She's 1ish years old and was abandoned by a family who moved without her. :(

my sister brings her 4 year old jack russel over and my 16 year old mini schnauzer fucking hates her. Small dogs generally start to age around your dog's age and they tend to lack tolerance for hyperactivity.

we have 2 cats and after 15 years together they still don't like each other. But we love them both, and they both love us.

We've got Gordon and Leah, 2 rescued greyhounds. Gordon was in the house first then we got Leah a few weeks later and we've had no problems but I think we've had no problems because they both arrived in the house within a couple of weeks.

- it's easier to train a second dog if the first is trained. but I guess everyone knows thatLlyod

We rescued two whippets a few years back and they are wicked. I'm terrified of the day one might be gone. Only downer is they are total tools when we see other dogs. They go crazy.

Just got my second puppy last week and things seem to be going ok. Rocco (8wk old Italian Greyhound) gets a little whimpery wen we go to work and Minnie (nearly 2yrs old Peke-a-poo) gets a bit territorial when it comes to our bed. But they get along and play fine when they're supervised.
It's a good idea to have two dogs instead of one, especially if you have to leave them alone all day to go to work. This link helped me decide it was a good idea to get the new pup:

- do you really have 3 BIG dogs?monkeyshine
- The black ones are big (coonhounds), but the one on the left is just a puppy. The yellow (approx. 35lbs.) just...blaw
