nah...real work changes your passions. the last satisfying thing I made was in '99 while I was in school. The I went to work and slowly had it ground out of me. You have to find a way to to separate home and office work. You need to learn to shit it out.
- well put... know that feeling well and feel the same way about the school work too... :(PonyBoy

1.) If you're good at what you do... keep your mouth shut and make sure your work proves it... no one cares to hear how 'good' you are.
2.) no matter how good you are... there are always a load of folx out there better than you.
3.) stay humble.
... and that bullshit about moving home w/your parents...
... HUH? WHAT?4.) Move out and show some self-worth by paying for your own ass while you try and pursue what YOU want to do... the only reason anyone should 'live at home' is because your parents NEED YOU... else... grow up... suck it up (unless you're struggling for work cuz you suck...)
5.)... if you 'suck' at what you've been pursuing (i've known far too many 'shitty' designers from school who went/will go nowhere in this field outside of a production job for $25k/year)... STOP NOW... REALIZE YOU SUCK... and become an accountant or something.
- Depends on your culture and if you're a guy or a girl. I think guys definitely should leave the house. I'm sexist ;)Jaline
- lame... grow up... move out you little mooch... don't you have like 6 other sibs your parents are still raising?PonyBoy

Pony,
I'm not trying to suggest everyone should move home... but if you can't get a job right away, don't have the money, and don't have a means of support... there are worse fates than having to deal with the parents. I DO think you should get out on your own as soon as you can, but it's not worth forcing yourself into a series of crappy jobs to pay off your credit card debt.

Always do freelance on top of your job. It offers you the opportunity to a wide variety of work and more experience. It means working when you get home, but it will pay off in skills and more work/pay in the future.
- grows your personal network too... leads to more work (word of mouth). :)PonyBoy
- If you have the time. I can speak for a lot of people when I say that for a lot of people it's just not physically possible.cannonball
- understandable, but the word of mouth networking is priceless for future work.capn_ron

1) Take yourself seriously. Even too seriously, if need be. If you don't, no one else will.
2) You get a job to A-get paid and B-do good work. To be a good employee, pursue A at all costs, and to be a good designer, pursue B at all costs. You can be both, but most of the time you have to decide which is more important. Realize that despite what anyone says, pursuing B gets you A, so do so when you are young and can still make sacrifices for your work.
3) Know what you are worth, and value your own opinion about it more than anyone else's. If you don't, you will get taken advantage of. If you are wrong, adjust accordingly.
4) Use your favorite color a lot.
5) Travel.
6) To be a designer, you have to be creative. Not everyone is creative. If designing doesn't work out for you, remember that being creative opens doors to other things you can do.
7) Stay out of advertising whenever possible. Find out why by doing advertising.
8) Make friends with those you sit near, and they will watch your back. Watch their back too.
9) Now that you are out of school, put down the bottle.
