when you going to be here? i can check around for shows and such, but i can recommend some food and drink places. a trip up or down the coast for a day or two is highly recommended if you have the time.

Take the Ferry one day from Fishermans Wharf out the Sausalito. Its really a nice ride if the weather permits.

any US folks got any suggestions?

you gotta narrow it down a bit, but....
sfmoma and ybca (yuerba buena center for the arts) are a must. many galleries in the mission.
you can do union square/chinatown/fisherman's wharf in a day as far as i'm concerned. unless you love to shop.
restaurants:
the slanted door, front porch, millennium, house of nanking, delfina, dosa, tu lan, ebisu, cha cha cha, slo club, and i second old chelsea. there is a ton of good food here, just kind of depends on what you like.bars:
zeitgeist, hemlock tavern, tosca's, hi-dive, casanova, bar 821, lucky 13, and many, many, many more that i can't think of now. 16th and mission.golden gate bridge and park. conservatory of flowers. ocean beach and baker beach. dolores park. presidio. haight st. valencia st. divisadero st. embarcadero.
too much. i'll add to this later.

16th and valencia..... much fun and trouble to be had there....... financial district for happy hour (north of market near and around 2nd st. good (a little south of market on that one) too). Dolores park on the weekends with a 40oz. Union Square sux (unless you really like shopping at stores we have across the United States). Haight St. is cool the first time you go but don't be surprises by the amount of people beggin for money for weed, and well North Beach is the shit for weekend nights (oh yeah and kennedy's for happy hour also; free beer tokens!). DO NOT GO TO THESE PLACES IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DRINK!
other than that usual tourist stuff...... have fun!!
- drinking will most definitely be on the agenda! Some top tips...rupedixon

Rent a bike and cycle through the city and over the golden gate bridge.
- that sounds like a brilliant idea - isn't really really hilly though??
rupedixon - a lot of people do it that aren't used to it. they can give you a route to take that avoids the hills.vanilla_cam

I was shocked city center was almost deserted after working hours on weekdays, but that was years ago..

where does everyone go?

Well, the galleries in SF aren't any better than the ones in London, so don't waste time on that. SFMoMA is all the usual Modernist bullshit, so don't waste time on that.
Bars, and clubs aren't any better than London, so don't waste your time.
The scenery is much nicer than London, so check that out during the day. Go to The Golden Gate, walk around Golden Gate Park, take a look at the Japanese Garden.
Go to The Palace of the Legion of Honor. It's pretty, and has some nice scenery. Go to Sausalito. Go up the coast of Marin County, because it is so fucking beautiful.

go to the Old Chelsea @ 932 Larkin St for the best fish and chips EVER.

well, I'm staying with some friends, so on the weekends I'll be hanging out with them. But they have to work, so during the weeks I'll be entertaining myself...
I was thinking 1st week check out the city, galleries, do the cultural thing, you know, just try and get inside the place, then on my 2nd week, I was thinking about hiring a car and taking a drive down the coast (south)...
- i'm just interested to see whats happening I guessrupedixon
