Visiting the UK in a few months and looking for a way to get from England to Dublin. Is Ryan Air's service as shitty as their web site? Any other suggestions for cheap travel?

Nah it's not that bad, basically remember they are no frills yo! I use them about three times or so a year to go to france to see my pal. Bog standard they get you there and besides it's only like one hours worth of flying the check in is fine as well no pissin about.

it's pretty much what you'd expect from their prices and ethics. But generally they get you there. Dont really need luxury for a tiny flight like that.
never flown em but:

ryan air is shite as hell. however if its for short flights its worth the savings. check where you are leaving from and going to because they normaly use unkown airports that cost 5x the fare to get to and from and at 5 in the monring so you need a taxi!

Ryanair is indeed shitty, but they have always been on time in my experience and if you don't mind not having any luxuries for the hour it takes for the flight you'll be grand. Much cheaper and much better than aerlingus. We flew Dublin to London last year with BA and they were pretty reasonable, if you didn't want to go with ryainair...

Here's the loose itinerary as we think it will happen.
Using the car/B&B drive yourself packages found at visitireland.com we will arrive in London, stay overnight, then drive north and over the next 2 days make our way up to Edinburgh. From there take a flight to Dublin and do a 1 week trip around Ireland the fly out of Dublin back to SF. How's that sound?

how much is the car B&B combo? tourism in Ireland can be v.expensive.
What parts of ireland will you be going to?
roads in ireland are pretty crap.

what dates?

Second half of May. The Ireland package with a compact manual car and accomodations for 9 days runs about $1300 USD. Still waiting on the quote for 3 days in England. The packages and all the flights I'm looking at around $4000 not including meals, petrol, and fun money while I'm there. Seems pretty reasonable.

Ryanair is ok, think it's a city bus level of service. Use debit card rather than credit (the latter is €4 per person per single flight), skip insurance (you should have your own travel insurance anyway) and you're sorted.
Can't complain about Ryanair, have flown more than 4 times this year alone, sometimes as cheap as €0.02 return (no taxes!) Always on time, unless landings are canceled because of wind.

I went with Ryan Air's about a year ago to see family in Dublin, lucky me. They are great for what they do, I got a flight for £55. good deal if you ask me.

Ryan Air has been fine for me, used them numerous times. Watch the weight of your bag!! they will definitely charge you if you're over their limit.

Have you checked southwest?

I prefer Ryanair over Easyjet any day of the week.

I don't think Ryaniar is that bad too, I went with then lots of times and have never had any problem.

Thanks for all your input. I think I'll give Ryan a whirl unless I come up with something better.

www.skyscanner.net - however, ryanair told them to remove their flights

Is it run by only one guy?
