Thinking of getting one of these. Does anyone own one?

or the Korg Electribe.

yeah, i like my korg electribe esx-1. it took me a while to learn how to fully use it.
- I loved the EA-1 for fat sounds as well...robotron3k
- still trying to find out what's the difference between the ESX and EMXusrper
- i think with the emx you can actually make more of an actual track with it while the esx is more for the samples you put into it and modify. don't quote me on that.alkanenine
- or use into it to modify. don't quote me on that since ive only used an esx.alkanenine

I've had the 505 but this one you should be able to walk into a party with this baby under your arm and rock the house. But there will be a learning curve as alkanenine says...

I've got the mc 505 as well. I would assume the user interface is similar and is good for live tweaking and sequencing, but you kind of get a signature "Roland synth sound" that may over time get on your nerves. but with samples you can really do whatever you want i suppose.

i have a 505 too...decent for an all in one box, but if i were you and just starting, i'd go with a software solution.
i love FL studio.

If your going to spend the money I would get a MPC - 1000
You can get the sounds from the 808, and pretty much any other drum machine in the world these days on the internet, and the MPC is much more versatile, as well as having the best hardware sequencing on the market today.
I have been using one for years and have not looked back
- ...got one of these too. if you buy new, make sure to get the bk-N, which has the new pads. the older ones suck. i had to replace the pads in mine for $180 :/subimage
- but it seemed to me its used mostly for hip hop (or the like), am i wrong?usrper
- nah...it's just a sampler/sequencer. doesn't have to be "just for hip hop". i'd get a small synth to pair with it though.subimage

I have the ESX-1 and it rocks. The thing about the electribe series is there's a unique sound you get out of them, they have a special character. . . they do a certain thing really well, and once you understand how it works, the creative process with it feels really cool. The MPC is def. more of a powerhouse, all around, do anything and everything machine. . . but doesnt necessarily have the tube warmth and analog character. I recommend playing with all the drum machines at guitar center or wherever for an EXTENDED period before deciding.
p.s. like the MPC, you can sample and/or load sample files from the 808 or anywhere else, including resampling the output of the sampler itself to layer effects and sounds, etc.
- Oh snap, i did not know that about the 808, I spoke too soon.big-papes
