i use a 15" macbook pro for my main machine. i simply need more territory to spread out on.
can anyone recommend a what and a where for a cheap 20"ish monitor? Newegg seems to be one of the places to go but aside from the contrast ratio (which i understand isn't very reliable) the rest of the info is meaningless to me.
thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think you can beat Newegg on price or selection.
Except fo this:

i looked at the Apple stuff and aside from the branding it seemed like i could get a comp. 400:1 or 700:1 monitor for almost half price at egg.

I agree, I think it is overpriced. IF you are looking to go on the cheap, I have heard good things about Scepter for a non-expensive good quality monitor.
- thanks flashbender. i'll check Scepter. Right now i just need the footage, not blinding response times or cinema quality display.DoubleKing

i got a 23" cinema display recently. if you are looking for a good color accuracy, i think it's well worth it. i was looking at 20" range at first, but it was too small when i saw it at the store.
if the color accuracy is not that important, then you can get a dell at much cheaper price.
here's the info you might find useful.
http://forums.macrumors.com/show…- thanks for the link. looking at it now.DoubleKing
- I really want a 23" cinema display but I still do a lot of print work and I'm worried that the color will be too far off.Josev
- I have used both apple's cinema and dell's. acturlly, think dell is better as you can adjust height.akrokdesign
- I do strictly print on the 23", no issues here.2cents

The sceptre monitors looked pretty good. the model i was checking out seemed to have a lot of issues with the dvi port blowing out at six months. Ultimately, i chose Dell based on price and the specs. Thanks for the tip tkmeister.

Dell UltraSharp 2208WFP 22-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand (now $275)
---> http://accessories.us.dell.com/s…I had the 24" and loved it. I would get it agian.
( http://accessories.us.dell.com/s… )- 22's are notoriously bad... typically 6-bit TN panels.monNom

ive just ordered a Samsung SM2032MW
its not arrived yet, but it cost £200 plus it doubles as a HDTV so I can slap my xbox 360 into it as well

Has anyone gotten the Dell 2208 yet? I'm needing to pick up some as second monitors, but I've read some mixed reviews. Many say, it says ultrasharp but, not like the 20, 24, 30's. And the price says to me, that would make sense.

i heard Dell 2208 uses a TN panel which is really shitty. i'd avoid any monitors that use a TN panel. At least get a PVA panel monitor and if the color is really important, get a S-IPS panel monitor.

I just got the HP w2207 with adjustable height 22inch
It also rotates to portrait the entire screen rotates but i believe that feature is only for a pc.I'm really pleased, it looks great and I'm used to working on a Apple Cinema display.
it was $330 but you can get it cheaper on amazon.
I got a mini - dvi to dvi cable and connected it to a dvi to HDMI cable
which goes into the HDMI slot in the back.It also has a vga slot but i think vga is slower response time isn't as good for high def?
anyway works great.

Go Samie. You can get two 24's for the price of one 23 cinema display. Cinema displays are old and out dated. You get better performance with a Dell or Samie. =) Don't go 20, you deserve better.

LCDs stay true for so long... you might as well buy the biggest baddest monitor available and then keep it forever... it is the most important part of your computer.

That'll probably outlive 2-3 system upgrades, if not more.

been using my 23" Apple Cinema Dispaly now for over a year, did away with my two monitor set up.
Works really well with Spaces too!! Well worth it, colours are great on it too! Very fucking bright though!!

I have a DellTM SP2008WFP 20" and love it. Was about a monkey though ($500)

yes like mentioned before, if you're into quality you might wanna look at something better than a TN panel.. starts around 500 (euro though) here.. everything else is ok, but not tops for color correction etc.
more expensive: 24" dell (WFPsomething)
cheap&nice: samsung 24" (245something)
