"``The monolines are dead, their business model is dead,'' said David Roche, head of investment consultancy Independent Strategy in London. ``The government is going to have to recapitalize this industry or there will be communities in the U.S. where they can't even flush their toilets'' because they can't afford the services."

Ah, good times.
- nice to know that tax money will clean up their mess. Maybe a bad time for a rebate cheque?monNom
- i don't really even know what that statement really means.Faction18
- Monolines are the companies that insure debt vehicles. If they can't insure bonds, well..TheBlueOne

if things go really bad, and it is possible, then the DOW could go down a few thousand points. If that happens, we are in serious trouble for a very long time (this all has to do with the greed and subprime mess, which could have a chain reaction - nothing of which we have seen yet, tip o' the ice burg).
I'll be happy if we just stay in a recession and recover as a normal, which really isn't that long.
I'll remain optimistic until proven otherwise (optimistic as in this is a good buying opportunity, normal/short recession)

shit's not worth the cotton it's printed on anyways. Nothing behind it to back it up except for a figure in a computer. Power goes out and your shit out of luck. The richest people will have the longest burning fires until the rest of us steal their fire with our pointy sticks.

should we bring democracy to the stock exchange??

Weave, its a gambler bemoaning the snap-back that has just completely cleaned out the big cash reserve he'd built up shooting craps. He's had a bad week. He's lost 80% of his fortune in two days. he sees no future. He's lost hois sex drive, his desire to socialise and 5lbs... all in the last two day's trading. he's predicting big bank collapse and numerous suicides in the financial arena. He concludes by thanking the short traders for fucking everything up.
- Thanks Spooky. It's not easy to feel sorry for him and I'm not one for trying.weave
- Don't feel sorry for him at all..but there's going to be lots of people out there like this...TheBlueOne
