Ok The time has come for me to upgrade my Mac.
I have used a G4 powerbook (black keys) for the last 4 years and have been very happy with it.What I would really like now though is 2 monitors.
I do mainly print and quite a bit of web but no hardcore video editing.I was think of getting an iMac but was unsure if I could plug in a second monitor.
So now it is either a MacPro with 2 monitors (mega££££) or a MacBookPro and one monitor.
Or even a Rammed up Mac Mini....?On a side note I think my GF (who lives with me) will be getting a MacBook.
What so you Oh QBN of wonder, truth and justice.
D!!
p.s anyone have a contact address for QBN as my old account is bust

Just curious and hoping Jesse doesn't throw stones at me, but can you hook up a second monitor to the imac? It would surprise me if you couldn't.
- You can but you need the $18 adapter to go from mini dvi to vga or dvi.cramdesign

the problem with imac and mac mini with second monitor is that the video card won't support very large monitors
- Didn't know that, thanksNote
- iMac supports a second display of up to 1920x1200cramdesign

on the other hand, with a main 24" monitor, how big a second monitor would ya need?
- kerus0
i thought the imacs just couldnt support the huge ACDs... 23 and under is fine (?)

Don't wait forever... wait until after the 15th to see what is new then get what you need. Two monitors is great with a MacBook Pro... though you are still spending some serious cash. For the money, I don't think that the Mini is a good deal unless you must have a mac and cannot go over $600. Better off with an iMac in my opinion.
The iMac will support a second display with up to 1920x1200 resolution... so that is all but the 30". By the way, the Dell displays are much cheaper and just as good. I have a Dell display at home and there is no difference to me from my Apples at work.
- I was looking at the dell 24" or the Samsung ones like quite tidyNote
- yea, I got the Dell 24... nice.cramdesign

my mini with 2gb ram isn't all that fast. it might be due to having itunes and azureus running in the background all the time. the hard drive in it is a 5400 rpm.
other mini owners use a 7200 rpm hd thru firewire as their bootup hd while they use the internal one for storage.

i am in a market for 23" ACD waiting for Jan 15th to see if there's any update. choosing your setup depends on type of work you do. i hear a lot of people are very happy with one 30" ACD over two 23", especially if you do a lot of print work. my setup is 15" macbook and soon, 23" ACD for mostly web work and photo editing. I travel a bit and portability is definitely a plus for me.
- 30" = 2 page spread at sufficient magnification to edit/read/designRandd

I like the dual screen set up so when I code for sites I can see both the code and siet at the same time.
Having a MBP with a monitor is frustrating as it is not at the same height and size.
- I agree. I find I rarely use my laptop monitor when I'm plugged into a monitor. I guess it depends on your desk setup though. Maybe some sort of plinth?? :)thismanslife

"Having a MBP with a monitor is frustrating as it is not at the same height and size."
could not overwhelmingly disagree more.
- really?Note
- Not too much head movement and re-adjustment?Note
- Really.madirish
- you can use something like this if it bothers you
http://www.griffinte…stupidresponse - i heard it's hard to color calibrated a MBP monitor close to an ACD. once i get an ACD, i won't be using MBP monitor.tkmeister
