Any software/gizmo/thingy out there you can install on your computer so you can track it in case it gets stolen?

Thank you.
And thank you Jaline, although I would like some advice on specific services that people have actually used. I know google ...

Of course. That's why most people ask questions like that here. I was just posting in case...

thinking about getting lojack myself......$25 a year for a 2 grand laptop.....
no brainer imo

lojack for laptops is software not hardware, easily circumvented by watchdog apps like little snitch
- kerus0
i mean guess if you've already whitelisted the app, cool.. but i dunno, seems like a bit of a joke

And that way "the man" is always going to know where you are.

im thinking insurance or a good credit card guarantee are a better option

I insured my 3 computers, 2 monitors, all accessories, plus my 2 digital cameras (totalling about $20,000) with a personal articles policy for like $175/year.
My agent claims that I am covered for full replacement cost even if I drop or damage them through stupidity.
So I agree with kerus.

Ideally, I would want something I could remotely shut off in case of theft, makign it impossible for the thief to access it. I suppose that doesn't exist though.
I couldn't care less about the computer. I just wouldn't want some lowlife crackhead going through my emails, files and address book ... And if he did, I would want to track him down so I can beat his ass.

then here is your solution: password protection. haha
- jox0
Well, I ... uh, yeah. Actually, um, that could work.
