I suggest staying clear of Front Page. It drops a ton of code thats totally not necessary and ridiculously unprofessional.

I'm not going to develop the site in FrontPage, they use it to make edits, know it well and want to continue to use it. You can tell me all day about how much it sucks, but the question still remains, can they edit static pages in Front Page?
- yep. there is even a code view that helps edit text if the WYSIWYG view isn't.jaylarson

well my suggestion is still the same. My reasoning is, last time I saw someone use FrontPage, it added about 5 lines of code just for a line break. To me thats totally ridiculous and obscured but if this doesn't bother you then feel free to use it.

I think you'll need to test it yourself... people are saying it sucks because it will take your code and mess with it, and without knowing exactly what your pages consist of; how can anyone tell?
- mrdobolina0
but the question still remains, can they edit static pages in frontpage?
- mrdobolina0
ahh forget it, thanks anyway

to answer your question:
Yes, FP will edit any static HTML. But... it will add code and markup to whatever original files you provide and there is a chance that this will alter the layout and/or cause the file you supply to break in any non-IE browser.

great, thanks flashbender.

Can't answer that for you my friend, but what I would do is to write a clause into your contract saying that any damage caused to the code by the use of their editing software is their responsibility and that they must carry any and all financial consequences.
- flashbender0
no problem. Just make sure to pint that out to them in the contract... that if they insist on FP, strange things could happen.
I know you got a million of the "they should use XXXX", but if they want to play it safe and do it cheap, I would maybe push them towards a free cheapy HTML editor like Coffee Cup or something like that.
- bah, emecks beat me to itflashbender
- that or even BBEDIT which is super cheap to purchase.TheTofuFactory

I'm in the same boat dobs - A client emailed to ask if the site I'm developing for them will be editable in FrontPage - I've never used that 'program' but see no reason why they couldn't use it...... and by 'use it' i mean mangle my design pretty bad.

I think the client wants to stay away from writing code. Hence why they are using FP. You would think by demonstrating the powers of Dreamweaver, they would love it. ( Don't they make a Dreamweaver for a client's use? Its like a light program? I thought they do. And I think its really cheap or free. Something worth looking into. Its smart to choose the battles to fight, but I believe it's smart to get a client on the right habits so that they generate more success with their projects. )
