Hello Folks, just redesigning our website and wondered what opinions are...
• The big image would be one of 6 case studies shown on random.
• In Brief would be a little blog like bit with favourite new album, nice links etc, something to get folk to come back to the website which everyone in soup would contributes too.
•Latest work is latest work.
•From the archives would just be images of our work, though not necessarily from the case studies.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I think the image from the header is to big, for some of the visitors.
Another thing is that maybe you can work on the top menu. Do some buttons or something there. Work more on the details. The structure seems to be good.

Looks cool. Nice image. Seems to large to be practical in terms of scrolling to see content. Even on a large monitor.

1) As Russet said, header image doesn't need to be so huge
2) Nav at the bottom feels weird to me, although I see what you're going forOther than that, it's a nice, clean layout. I guess a lot depends on the quality of your work and what the rest of your site looks like.
On a side note, might be helpful to use rasterized version of Verdana or Arial for the live text...to give a better idea of what it will really look like...unless its in Flash

Thanks for taking a peek folks,
Looks like the big image isn't going down too well huh? Think it needs to be developed into a showcase area more so it doesn't feel like a header.
Good point about the text ukit, i reckon it is likely to be html. though would love it to be flash. Thanks for the complement on the photo, but can't take credit, it was taken by my dad with his phone!
Anyone else?

I would like to see a bit more structure and hierarchy - especially with the typeface. That main image is colossal and doesn't need to be that big.

i don't know, i love the way that image provides a great visual resting point and could/does allow you to set tone of what to come deeper. i try things like this often and the subtle use of graphics/typesetting over top is wonderful.
if you shot the photography that will be there, that is another plus and an easy converstation piece for clients to engage you with, or reference as well.
- and i skipped critique of the nav; change the typeface for sure. it is lost amongst all other and could be better.madirish
- Thanks that type face appears to be a lead balloon!mybrokenshoe

You an use there a big image, no problem. But then you need to think there something like a flash sideshow or Ajax. Otherwise that image has no sense there.

thanks jevad, looking at it again (now you have pointed it out :) i can so that your eyes flow over the text not really settling anywhere. so i will definitely have a play with the heirachy. The font is not final just it is fairly neutral.
I am still a fan of the big image, as that is what we are selling (ideas too but most average punters think of visuals straight away) so having a big image/showcase seemed to make sense. but i'll have a play and see what develops
Thanks folks
- whoops i have just claimed all we are is colouring in agents... sorrymybrokenshoe

img is too large.

agreed first take that big image crop it down waaay too big for a header
- wordsinyourmouth0
also, i like the typeface but not with what image you have going on

I feel like the large image could be nice but why not tie the navigation in to it? Also, the first column is too narrow. As you move forward with real content you will probably find that it makes trouble for you.

sorry got carried away watching tv, thanks for the feedback guys, i'l post again when i have sorted the points above...
thanks :)

hello folks, had a play around,
• Changed the title typeface
• Lost the smaller column
• Changed the top image, made it smaller and tried to make it more of a showcase/case study area, rather than a header image. As i was uploading it i thought it might be a nice way to navigate the portfolio at least from the front page - if that was made in flash, the objects on the cutting board would light up on hovering... dunno yet, still a way to go i think.
- scpgt0
i actually quite like the large image at the top but granted, it's a massive amount of space to 'waste' (for want of better word).. going with your latest idea might be a good compromise however. provided you have enough images to be playing around with in that 'cutting board' area..

Is http://www.mybrokenshoe.com/ the site?

sorry man, that face still sucks.
try something a bit heavier and with a more distinct presence to it; the current serif/italicized is probably blending even more now that prior. not that it should be basis for nav face, but bring it more in line with a DIN or the like.
additionally, break the nav out from the brand mark; both will benefit and the grid you are establishing south of the green area will become clearer if you establish it at top with this breakout.

"jaylarson - Is http://www.mybrokenshoe.com/ the site?"
Nope thats my illustration portfolio. it's a design collective i am part of: http://soup-design.co.uk/
"sorry man, that face still sucks."
Ha ha, no worries, I'm not too hot on typefaces. I'll have a play with the recommendations you made. good point about breaking the nav up.
thanks folks

i don't like horizontal scrolling. given i don't have a mighty mouse, but this form of navigation isn't supplemented by mainstream technology, yet.
i like the portfolio section of johndiggity's site: http://www.johnmchugh.net/ it keeps the layout clean. and presents a slick inteface.

"given i don't have a mighty mouse, but this form of navigation isn't supplemented by mainstream technology, yet." wtf? what does any of that even mean? I think "i don't like horizontal scrolling" would've sufficed.
I, on the other hand, like horizontal scrolling. Have done for 8 years now, mainstream technology availability aside.
- haha- i was thinking the same thing. no clue what you mean there dude...madirish
