starting to look around, probably want to get a one soon but just wanted to know what you guys have? and if they are worth the price? I don't really want to spend more than 1200.
discuss please.

honestly, i would not get one. i would instead get a monitor w/ HD capabiliites and screw the "TV". litertally ALL cable/recorders, ect boxes you get for free have all the tuner capabilities you would ever need already. the amount saved for same quality viewing is nuts.
- i should ponder this more, cause i have a 23" cinema display, and will probably get another one here, but i have no idea how to hook it up********

Lookup Vizio. They are rated really good, have great warranties and are incredibly cheap compared to Samsung, Sony, Sharp etc. I was a bit leery about it at first but bit the bullet and saved about $1,000 with a 3 year warranty.
- cool thanks, i'll look around********
- has a tuner also.mrdobolina
- make sure that Vizio have a Faroudja video processor, those are the good onesvwsung18t
- GOOD CALL, vw, MINE DOES TOO! sorry caps lock

really?
- madirish0
no, not a standard comp monitor- i mean the ones 'like' in airports and stuff, only with HD capabilities. they are at all elec. stores. they will 100% steer you away from them, however.

how is the picture quality with Vizio compare to samsung, sony, etc?
- Vizio are good for the price. they're not better than the higher line models like Sony Bravia or Sharp Aquos. Vizio is as good as Westinghouse and Oleviavwsung18t

Check Out the 37" Olevia. Impressive IQ and price. Very good reviews everywhere!

Bought one for myself and me mum.

Sony, Samsung and Sharp have richer colors but by a slim margin. I'm not interested in spending an additional g-note for that.

I got a Sony Bravia a while back, it ROCKS. Really excellent set. More then 1200, but well worth it.
A more affordable LCD I know 3 people with is:

"STDs on your HDTV" just struck me as funny slogan.

maybe it should be like not willing to spend more than 1500 after doing a bunch of looking :D
- You kind of a high fidelity video fan? Gaming on an XBOX 360 or PS3? Not sure the VIZIO will be up to the task.k0na_an0k
- nah.... believe it or not all i have is an old Nintendo 64 that i never play anymore********
- Ok. If you're just looking for A TV those will work just fine and save you some cash. Good luck.k0na_an0k
- I have had the ps3 plugged in HDMI to the vizio and it looks incredible.mrdobolina
- granted it isnt 1081i, but I don't give a shit.mrdobolina

Bought a 56" DLP HDTV by Samsung. It's incredible and quite thin for it's size. The TV itself is gorgeous and the picture is amazing. DLP is quite a bit cheaper than Plasma and LCD and damn close in size. Although you can't hang a DLP from your wall like you can a plazma. I'm really happy with it.
- checked it out, and looks great and pretty cheap too********
- I'm telling you, the picture is stunning for the money. There is a very soft 'eeeeeee' that comes from bulbs though.k0na_an0k
- But obviously with the sound on you can't hear it.k0na_an0k
- gotchya, yeah... the price seems almost too good to be true on amazon for the size********
- Because everyone wants to hang a tv from their wall and thinks DLP is the size of CRT....k0na_an0k
- The 56" is what... 15" deep? 17" maybe? And that's at the bottom tapering up in the back.k0na_an0k
- checked it out, and looks great and pretty cheap too

I'm with Kona on this. I bought the 50" DLP by Samsung. From Amazon is $1200 and change with free and fast delivery. The picture is amazing, especially for movies. For the price, I'm not sure you can do better. To get size and quality out of flat-panels means much more money.
- It was a toss up between the 50 and 56" models. I'm so happy with the purchase.k0na_an0k

i would get an LCoS tv like Sony SXRD or JVC HD-iLA, if you have the space. i think it's the best of all technologies right now. no, burn-in problems like plasma (companies say that they got rid of that problem but recent tests say most of them are not true), brighter screen and better view angle than LCD, no color wheel effect from DLP and not as bulky as a CRT. I have a Sony and it even as a sensor on the surface of the screen that senses sunlight and brightens the picture accordingly.

We just got a Panasonic Viera... not sure what size but its the biggest one they do at 100hz. Probably not the biggest on the market but supposedly it has the fastest refresh rate, or so the drone told us. Have to say that I have yet to see a HDTV screen anywhere that really demonstrates a clear advantage. I suspect its hyped at 150% to sell TVs with a quality gain of maybe 30%.
- was it 100Hz or 120Hz?vwsung18t
- Not sure now you ask... I seemed to remember it was 100hz but if there are faster ones then its the faster one cuz the bloke said it was the fastest to date and we only got it a few weeks ago.********
- 120 Hz LCDs are really awesome. there is such a noticeable difference in picture speed between standard 60Hz and 120Hz tvsvwsung18t

i have 42" Panasonic plasma. The color is definitely better(more natural) on plasma. I haven't had any burn in problem and panasonic has pixel shifter technology that's supposed to prevent the screen from burn-in. you do have to be a bit careful about it but it's not much of an issue for me. i paid about $1100 and i am very happy with it so far.
- yeah, good brands have better solutions to prevent burn in and they do have the best colors but they can get expensive for good ones and they need to be recharged every few yearsvwsung18t

Thanks for this thread, I have an old clunky Sony HD TV that is like 200 pounds that I am going to retire for a new sleek one (that I can move by myself...).

You chose a great time to go about buying one, I can not believe how cheap they are right now.
- Indonesian's must be having a surplus of births i guess....

I bought an LG on black friday...So far it's been a great TV. I hear that Samsung is the best brand to go with, I just couldn't afford it.

A good friend of mine bought the 67" Samsung 1080p DLP. It's.... unreal. It's like you're at the movies at his house. He's got a PS3 and 360 and gaming on it is incredible. Watching sports is like you're actually there. It's a bit too big for me though, it would dwarf our room.
