Does anyone have an excel spreadsheet that they use in their flat share of multiple people (4 in our case) to divide up bills and figure out who owes what etc? Our house is a freaking mess when it comes to bills and we need to start tracking it!

Would anyone like to send me a template that they might have to alexleeblack [at] gmail.com so I can leverage my own one off it? ;)

Excel doesn't have jaws and sharp teeth.
If i did it you can do it as well

why not just divide each bill by the number of people in the house then extract the appropriate amount from each?

because different people pay different bills. I've made an easy one which can figure out what people should equally owe, but i'd like it to figure out who owes who automatically, when 4 different people are paying different bills.

So like mine, but on steroids. A flat I used to share about 3 years ago at had it but i've lost it ;(

Good lord - divide by 4 is too much to get your collective head around? No matter how clever your spreadsheet, you're still going to need some putz to manage entering all the values and to gatekeep the system and ensure payments are made, so any such 'solution' would be a false economy.

Why not just get a piece of paper up on a noticeboard, detailing who pays what, when and roughly how much - then.. and here's the clever bit ..grow up, and learn to just ask for money. Jesus - is yours the type of flat that has a washing rota pinned above the sink and a notice above the toilet warning against sprinkling on the seat?

wow go nuts! bad day at work? Or just generally angry?

Nope, it's just we have loads of stuff coming in and out and it's just a nightmare to manage with people just paying for stuff and forgetting etc. Would be great to have something where we could, you know, be organised.

We had something like this in a previous house and it rocked. End of the month people paid what was owed and that's it.

    • Generally angry. Sorry, it was just that your post reminded me of all the worst people I've ever met.detritus
    • yeah, detritus is a fuckwit. disregard his rant.
i say this in jest of course. detritus is one of the best members on this on this site and usually offers the most cohesive/poigniant(s... answers.
