Sorry I know it's not design-related, but it's just so fucked that this is still giong ahead... Whale desn't even taste nice - there is just no reason for this to be happening!

I can't believe they're still "researching" how it tastes.

I had whale sushi not too long ago, and it was very tasty
We shoot whales up here and Greenpeace keeps coming.. Just to get told to fuck off or get a harpoon up their ass. So they leave.
Whaling is done to keep the population of them down, there are so many of them that they actually harm the ecosystem. But people tend to overlook that factor when they think of their little Disney ocean where everything lives in peace and harmony.

Designerror, I've never had an issue with the fact that Iceland hunts whales in its own territory - every country has right to it's own fisheries. But when Japan decides to hunt whales out of it's territorial waters - which is does constantly, then it becomes everyone eles problem. It's complete bullshit.

you seem to overlook the factor that IF there would be too many whales their food-resources would diminish and eventually there would be not enough to support a large population of whales. Wich would lead to the death of a certain number of whales until an equilibrium is achieved.
- I was reading the wiki on whaling.. this comment was directed at designerrorneverblink
- ah righto neverblink, my apologies.RIZ
- Given the choice, I know I'd rather starve to death over several months.blaw

Right - 'IF', but thats not the case, as whale population are still well below what they should be. Their cover of it being 'reasearch' is a blatant lie.
"The Fisheries Agency, a small Government bureaucracy with control of whaling policy, sees itself as Japan's defender against Western "culinary imperialism" and its right to marine resources. The agency says Japan's low food self-sufficiency - less than 40 per cent - gives it the right to hunt all sustainable sea life, including whales."

Just as bad as us fishing for cod.

I´m not going to say nothing bad about japanese whaling... coz my ancestors extingished at least a pair of whale species.
I think designerror is right at his point.

well, these whales are listed as an endangered species so it isn't population control... and it was only the actions of the IWC and groups like greenpeace that prevention their extinction last time round.
what more messed up is the fact that 40-60% of all cod caught is dumped dead back into the sea because of quotas and over-fishing.
- lowimpakt0
"European Union quotas strictly limit the amount of fish that vessels can bring back to port, but there is no restriction on the amount of fish they actually catch."

I think the biggest out cry is not necessarily the whaling itself, but the fact that they are targeting humpbacks a "vunerable" species that is making a comeback due to anti-whaling measures that were taken to protect it.
