i'm designing a logo for a startup nutrition company. the name is NAO Nutrition (owner's initials).
she had very little idea on theme, colors, etc so i'm trying out a range of things. what do you think??

I'd go down either 2 or 4's route.
I'm not sure about either's colouration - they're both a bit dull, and nor do i like the oddly dotted 'i's in 2.
It might be a bit cheesy, but could you play a bit more with the whole nao/tao thing 4?
Good luck!

I really like those! The ones I'm least fond of are 5, 6, 7 and 8. I know that's not much help, but I think you have a nice variety there that she should be happy to look at.

2 & 4, others have some interesting ideas but some just dont look quite right.

Oh yes...
...another beauty contest...
To be honest I'm not digging them. The type choices seem a bit weak and dull. I get an istockphoto feel from some of them.
I'd say keep experimenting with 5 and 6. Even #1 could work, but maybe try to add some tracking to the name and try something with the 2 N's. You know something that could be strong coz the N's are clashing with the name as they are the same weight. A strong pair of N's could also help you develop a strong symbol/icon that you could use on their material.
As to the colours I'd say stay away from the brown of #2 and the green of #8. They aren't as energetic as the other colours you used.

I keep reading malnutrition

Look like logos for logos sake!

Lots of variety there, leftwave - nice one. I like 2 and 6.
As said before, not sure about the dots of the eyes on 2, although I can see what you're trying to do there.
In general, colours are very insipid.

I really like number 1 with the mirror 'nn' (one on the right is better mirror).
But the typeface is all wrong. Try something less thin. Maybe contain the 'nn' in a box aswell. Could look really hot.
No4 also works well. I'd develop those 2 further.

Like the illustrative ones (2,4 and 8).
The 8 seems the "healthier" one.Like others said i would go with stronger and brighter colors with a quite strong and gentle type.
Actually some of them looks like Kate Moss' nutrition company.
Anyway seems the right track

Try 6 with the icon fruit icon from 2 replacing the O. Also make "nutricion" larger and heavier.

Think more about the subject matter, it's nice that you are thinking about the relationships/shapes of the letters but put it into context, have look around at what other people have done, put your logo amongst them, you'll soon see whether it is working or not, and then make yours stand out!
I just don't think they are working, it feels like you have thought about a couple of executions, I'd guess at 2,3 perhaps 4 and then just did another 6 options or at least that's what it looks like to me!

I feel all your colours are a bit 'wishy washy'.
Although I like your logo approach on route 9, maybe if it was more of classical font you used, Perpetua? Dunno... nice mark though!

2 or 8

the similarity of "n" to "u" could be played with because it echoes the benefit of good nutrition. yr "1" had it in place with that neutra display like font but it was a too reedy a choice.
Agree that color needs more cowbell.

Tell us a little more about the company, each logo seems to be representing something different.
I like 8 most, however I'm not 100% sure what its telling me, I'm thinking mint tea....

I would push number 6 further, maybe thin it up slightly and take the orange thing out of the 'o'. You could also try a leaf silhouette in the counter of the 'a'

I agree on 2&4 - I would explore color & placement more, but those 2 say health/nutrition - the others that play off initials are very vague - could be law firms or accounting?

3 all the way.
take out those huge numbers on the left. they're distracting.

great comments thus far-
I was initially drawn to 4 - it seems to be the most appropriate and well-developed of the group i can see ties to nutrition with the use of leaves (organics etc) and i think the serif works well in this venue-
that being said...
I also see 6 working with more development. I'm having trouble finding a connection to 'nutrition' in the mark inside the 'o' - it could be that there is no point. the reversed line weight could be too thin at small sizes

thanks for the awesome feedback! you guys rock!
