Kind of like how I used to use "gyp", as in ripped-off, before. Not that I said it often, but eventually I realized that it is a derogatory term insinuating that Gypsies steal, and I felt bad.

Jaline - gypsies can go to hell - a large group of them coralled me and tried to steal my bmx when I was about 11. I tried, quite spastically, to fend them off with the only thing I had to hand - a plastic bag filled with sweeties - was waving it at them like the big fairy I was (and still am, probably).
Thankfully, a group of locals waded in, leaving me to cycle off sniffling like a little girl.
