Just out of curiosity, what is the attraction with a fixed-gear bike? I'm not a big bicycle guy, so I don't know much about it.

(Oct 16 07, 10:00)Slower going downhill, and more painfull going uphill?
No, I am not a biker either. Last time I rode one, I was late for scout camp in the mid 80s.

(Oct 16 07, 10:59)hard to explain without riding one... you are one with the bike, a very zen experience. plus i have way more control, can brake safely in hard corners. also good for perfecting your cadence and training if you race.

(Oct 16 07, 10:00)"And what is with the "tricks" people are doing on them? Looks retarded, kind of like they're the fruitbooters of the biking world.

is it easier to crank up hill? what's the max speed?

Llyod
(Oct 16 07, 11:23)if you're talking same gear ratio, yes, but if you drop into a lower gear on a geared bike, no. max speed also depends on your gear ration and how fast you can comfortably spin! velodrome riders can spin at speeds that would toss the average rider ass over kettle

gimme a break dude... I love bikes but damn.

(Oct 16 07, 11:21)Wouldn't you get the same effect staying in the same gear on any other bike?
- mrdobolina0

- Point50
