I love the dilemma I'm in:
Doing some freelance projects and taking a stab at some shirts to submit on threadless to make extra money to buy a new computer. 99% sure going to get a MacBook Pro.
Can hardly do said freelance projects because my Win2K PC thinks it's a great idea to just freeze up for no reason whenever it feels like it.
Projects = $$ = New Computer
New Computer = Projects done more easily, but, alas, see above.
Seriously, you should see me here, I think I'm saving my work every minute or two.

WANNA BORROW MY POWERBOOK 12 INCH?
- Nairn0
heh, my last project just about broke Illustrator.
I'm not the most patient of people when it comes to stuttering, spaxxored computers, so I'm quite proud that I've not destroyed anything in a quickly-regretted fit of rage.
Come on, 8 core processors, hurry up!

Funny thing is, I have a brand new copy of XP sitting on my shelf, not even installed.
Been wanting to build a new PC for a while but have in my mind just said fuck it. I'd love a laptop and wouldn't have to feel unproductive when I'm at my GF's place and want to work on artwork or whatever.
I'd updgrade mine to XP but it's a whole process of re-installing Adobe CS - my home version is my work version... software safely locked in the IT department. :D
My only saving grace is this great new Radiohead album.

how fast is your pc?
- mg330
2.0 gig Celeron with 1 1/2 GB memory.
I built it in 2003 and it's done really well, but sometime in the last 6-8 months it's developed an illness... It works great otherwise.
Just freezes up. Nothing at all in the Error logs. No virus, I use crap cleaner to check for various nonsense, and it will just freeze up in the middle things. Not overheating either, I put in a case fan in the spring and temps are fine - besides, when it was overheating it would just shut off.

that happens when your HD is about to crap out
i would actually back up everything everyday
or when ever finish your work
- mg330
All my work is on a second drive. Been backing up pretty regularly. Everything gets downloaded or saved on a 160 gig internal drive. My C: drive is only 20 GB I think and had it since 2003 when I built this.
- MrD0
hmmm i am guessin all your apps is in your 20 gig drive.. hmmm
i suspect it could be the HD soon to be failure
or mother board issue....
but none the less its gotta go
- mg330
I know. It sucks!
Yah, all apps are on C:I just added a 160 gig drive in the spring and started storing everything there.
I'm looking forward to having some extra money to start down a different path. I've never wanted a Mac that much, but would take an MBP over a PC laptop 10 times out of 10. Mobility is becoming more important to me in that regard.
- mg330
Hell, I've even thought about getting a Mac Mini to tide me over, especially if new MBP's are coming out in January.

Possibly, though I'm not a fan of credit. Trying to clean up some crap I found on my credit report recently that totally shouldn't be there.

- mg330
Threadless pays over $2 thousand now edd-e.
Crazy, I can remember when it was like $500.
Anyhow, while I'm not banking on anything winning there at all, much of my learning Illustrator in the last year has at some point involved stuff that I could see on a shirt. It's a strange style that's popular there these days though. Gone are the days of abstract Prate-esque stuff and in are the days of ridiculous irony or things that are just bare-bones simple.
