Hi all,
I have been using Daler Rowney's system 3 acrylic paint for a while now but find i have to be /really/ careful or i get the colour running.
for example, if i have red, an want solid white ontop I have to be so careful as to not make the red bleed into the white an make pink.
is this a problem i am causing, a problem with acrylic paint in general, or something that can be cured by using something that isn't system 3?

what is system 3? are you letting the acrylic to dry?
ask the art store in your area to make sure the "lightfastness" is a good one for you to use, but not sure if that is your issue, or maybe system is just cheap paint.

system 3 is jsut a brand of acrylic paint by daler rowney. good range of colours, fairly economical. just been using it since college.

it maight be that brnd then, ask the store if they can show you a stronger brand that doesnt let the colors run even after its dry.

I do not have a clue of what you're talking about, but I've read a bit about oil painting and what most people say about acrylic paint... and the main thought is that doesn't last enough to make it into art history.
just an opinion.

I think the last thing i have to worry about is the type of paint I'm using if i'm thinking about becoming "art history".

part of your problem is the way you are painting. Ideally you want to work from light to dark, so you aren't trying to cover thosedark areas with a light color.
But if you must go over darks with whites for the effect you are trying to achieve, make sure the underlying paint is completely dry. Then go over with thick undiluted paint. Other than that see if there is a medium you can mix with the paint to make it more opaque.

cheers. i don't really know how else to achieve the effect, i suppose i should be using oil paints because i use a texture medium and thickly applied paint just because i don't like flat paintings, hence why i put lights over darks a lot. i have to be /really/ slow for it not to go wrong.
meh, guess i'll just suck it up. sounds like a problem i am causing by using the paint wrong.
thanks for your help dude.
