do you pay for daycare/school. depending on how old your kids are, you could be saving more taking the long drive job and having the wife stay home...

Unless your wife doesn't want to stay home....which is obviously something you guys will be discussing.
Take the job for a year or so until you can establish yourself a bit more and get out of debt. After that you can decide if you want to switch it up.

Which company gave you a better vibe? If it's the same, go for the money.

(Sep 4 07, 07:57)I don't have to discuss that with her, I already know she does NOT want to be a stay at home wife/mom. She's far too driven and motivated with her career to walk away and stay at home. I'm positive that would completely drive her crazy.

(Sep 4 07, 08:04)Yup, I know so many people like this. Hmm...that makes the decision a tad more difficult. Spending time with your kids is very important (as I'm sure you know), but if you can efficiently allocate time to spend with them during the week while taking on the new job, it'll be great. Unless the commute really does bother you A LOT.

(Sep 4 07, 08:14)She's shaping the lives and future of other people at the moment while her and I, along with our family shape the life and future of the little ones. That's my biggest problem with the long commute job, everything will have to change. Shedules, timetables, sitters, who's where on what day, it will be a nightmare.

I can tell anyone whatever I want whenever I want and how I want.
...
But yea most of my posts are half-joking, haha.
Do I think money is everything? Of course not.
Do I think it can buy happiness? Absolutely.
Do I think I am truly a voice of reason to someone I have never met in terms of a life decision they are about to make? I am on the fence with this one.

go for the money man. money is everything.

I'd go with the first one.
To me, time is everything.
If I was in a job doing something I love, had more time to spend with my nearest and dearest and could afford to live comfortably I would be most contented.

Good luck dude. Money isn't everything. I like spending time with my family most.

Anyone who knows money can't buy happiness is rich. To me personally a small place, creativly oriented with still a decent salary and not that many down sizes beyond comparing to the other on is better.

yeah, in the end its you descision, I just dont understand why some people see it wrong to have one parent dedicated to the education of the children while one of them can make all the money necessary. Many times we forget that our children are not learning only our values but those around us, and if our kids spend 8 hours a day watching TV/sitters/day care while only 1 or 2 with the parents then there is no question where they are learning their principles. But again there are circumstances where you can't avoid it. again I'm saying this just for those who one of the members of the family can go out and make what is necessary for the family.

I take that back... read it now. Just looked like a small novel with lots of numbers in it to start with.
But really, do whatever YOU want, how the fuck would we be better deciding for you?
- Jaline0
It kind of sounds like you're already leaning towards the smaller place, close to home. Which sounds fine...ultimately it's your decision.
Right now money is very important to me as I'm paying for school and I already spend time with my family during the evenings and weekends. But I don't have a family of my own in the sense of children, which is a huge factor.
