its a bad time if you are looking for a loan..
lot of agencies went down.. i worked for Argent for a while... Argent, 20 century, lending tree, etc.. all had lay offs... so cal is bad right now

I think it's actually a pretty good time. Houses are always expesive down there. If you want to buy a house anywhere "appealing" you're going to spend alot. I live in Seattle and it's about the same prices as you'll find down there. Moved from Portland a couple years ago, pretty similar market. You can always find a deal. My inlaws just sold there place in Oceanside for under 500k, gated community, pool, sweet deal. My bro in law bought a sweet place in Vista for 450k a few months back. Pretty sure you can find a deal. Just keep looking.
