what font manager you're using? If you say 'fontbook', you got an interslap coming your way.

load fonts in genres, that apply to your design objective.
keeps it lean. no point in having your programs load 1497 fonts you aren't going to use.

latest version is the best yet:
http://www.linotype.com/fontexpl…and it's free.

yeah, use font explorer, can't beat the price. if you put that many fonts in fontbook, they'll all load up at startup, totally bogging your system down. font book is the pits for font management, especially if you have to activate fonts frequently.
Just think, if you have 1500 fonts loaded in, every time you click on a pulldown menu that contains font names, your computer has to display all 1500, and if you have it set to display styles, you'll be rendering out 1500 fonts and that sucks some serious memory.

Question: when you use a font managing program, do you only need to put that font in that program and not also into the system folder for fonts?

Fontbook? you may as well take a dump in the CD drawer for the shit you've already put in there.
I use LinoType font explorer without many problems at all

(Jul 25 07, 04:54)Jaline,
the program will manage your system fonts folder. It will put the fonts you added to the program in a separate library that will not be read by the system. Once you activate a font the font managing application will add that font to the system fonts folder and when deactivated it will remove it from that folder again.
This way your system is not loaded with fonts, which means slower loading times for other applications, as all those fonts need to be read first.

thanks, janne! I will definitely check out Font Explorer for my new mac ;)

Awesome, I did not know/remember that Linotype came out with a PC Version.
I installed it earlier this morning, and already deactivated like 150 shitty fonts.

thanks for all the help.

LinoType no longer works on my computer, and now brings everything to a grinding halt when I boot it up.
:X
The buttons will be enabled shortly...

I recently got Font Explorer. Works like a charm.

when you pull down a font menu, does it stretch clear across the room and out the door?
