C4D: Viable?

I just started playing with Cinema4D. How viable is this app when pitted against the competition? Does it have much reach into the industry? Anyone on here employed as a C4D-centric designer? Etc.
It seems solid (well...solid enough to handle my limited skills) thus far...but I get concerned as I'd never heard of C4D until recently...haven't seen many C4D books or heard of a C4D course offered anywhere...etc. So am I looking at an underdog 'InDesign -vs- Quark circa 1999' scenario? Or is C4D kind of a joke in the industry?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Cinema4D has a broad acceptance in the design world. It does depend what sort of business you work in. And PC-oriented companies usually work with 3D Max.
Yet for Mac, C4D is right up there with Maya and Lightwave. Probably more popular than Lightwave by now.

As far as I know, C4D is very highly regarded. I've done a lot of work in Maya, after I chose to learn that app for 3D several years ago. I wish I had gone with C4D. 3D choices are more limited on Mac.
Here's the difference, as I am told:
Something like Maya is designed for a larger team or pipeline. With C4D, the individual or a duo team can complete and entire project from modeling to rendering quite easily.
That's my 2 cents. :)

i can give you a couple of tutorials... download some textures here

add a sky to your scene... and add a luminance map to a material put it on the sky and use as light... good results

C4D can indeed be used for a lot of purposes since everything has been integrated in a very friendly interface. YOu can even buy a basic version with modelling and texturing capacities and move on to add modules for more advanced applications of the program in the future.

Thanks guys.
Yeah, I'm getting through the basic tutorials now. Thanks for the hookup.
It's safe to say that I'm pretty much totally ignorant to the Motion Graphics landscape, but is C4D more widely used overseas -vs in the US?
Regardless it seems to be worth learning. Thanks again for the input.

Couple things to keep in mind as far as usage:
-Learning one robust 3D app gives you the skill set to learn another fairly quickly if necessary at another job.
-Most clients, vendors, post houses have a "whatever gets the job done best" type attitude.
Learn it, you'll be fine.

Isn't Maxon and Adobe having some kind of tour at the moment?
I've been told the integration btwn C4D and AE is really good.
I'm a 3dsmax user and normally work on a PC, but every now and then I get thrown on a mac and need to do 3D so i've been trying to teach myself C4D. So far so good, I have a few complaints about the app, but nothing to major.

you also get good results when you export the camera from c4d and take it to AE

It rocks. Simple as.

i like C4D, it's quite simple and you can achieve great results in small amount of time workin' on it...
Btw, try the "Maxwell plug-in" for C4D, it needs an heavy PC specs, but check out the gallery... it's awesome!
Renders made on C4D with Maxwell plugin:
Cheers! =)

C4D and After Effects integration is hard to beat if one will be using them together.
