Hello Folks, it's that time of the year where i want to redesign my site, however the last couple i have just tweaked how it works.
current site: http://www.mybrokenshoe.com
i don't think it is particularly interesting, but it does show the work nicely...
I would love to do something really clever and interactive and more personal but i don't think art directors have much patience with that type.
as a result this is one of the ideas i am thinking of replacing it with (similar navigation to the existing version just a touch more friendly:
any opinions would be much appreciated, i am stuck...
cheers

Wow man - nice work! Your redesign isn't too much of a departure from your current - i like how easy / simple it is. Personally, just adding the logo treatment to your current site would be a nice touch.

cool work, yeah as thirsty says just update the logo..
- de4k0
yep love the new logo
and also maybe seeing your work on white is better, gives it more cowbell.

Me like! Especially the logo.

go for it.

hey de4k - dig yer werk man.

cool illys.
maybe you just need to freshen the site up a bit but you're not a site builder, you're an illustrator so, personally, i wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hello Guys,
thanks for the feedback and compliments, much apreciated.
I hadn't really thought of just changing the logo on my current one, maybe it is a case of just having seen it too much...
more cowbell it is. (haven't read that in ages everything used to need more cowbell :)
thanks again folks...

weren't you working on a business card recently? how'd it turn out?
nice work, i agree with the light bg - maybe not totally white, but near...
- mybrokenshoe0
hey bulletfactory, yup finished the business card got the printed and so far really postive responses, mostly little giggle which is what i was going for :)

Awesome work and simple nav. The only thing I don't like is the nav font. It doesn't fit. It looks like it would ship with wordpress or something canned. The new mock up looks great with the playful type.

don't like the new font. logo is nice though. as was said above, i would just update the current site with the new logo.

cheers skt, though i kinda like my handwriting, i think if it was cleaned up a touch it could work. now not sure about the clicking for info, asking people to click asking for trouble.

the illustrations are very nice. but i do have some reservations about the navigation. i don't like it that you don't know what you are getting when you click on an image. thumbnails would be nice.
i just noticed the thumbnail link. perhaps you could switch the default to be thumbnails then the click-as-you-go sequencing?
again, nice illustrations. i just wish i could see them in a way that I am more familiar right up front.
dig?

I agree with Jay Larson...I think its mystery meat navigation until you guide the user either with visuals, ie thumbnails, or text, saying which image is next or where you are in the whole list of items...other than that, the illustrations are really fun - keep up the good work...
- mybrokenshoe0
hey Jay Larson, Wendog, thanks for taking a peek and the feedback though not too sure i completely agree:
Currently you arrive straight into the portfolio and so see the work straight away (usually the reason for visiting the site.) I find the idea of arriving on a page of thumbnails a bit dull, and unless you show the whole image but smaller, you are just as in the dark (though you might pick by colour I guess.) the other option seems to be to have a splash page to avoid going straight into he thumbnails which is a touch redundant and another click.
Maybe the thumbnail link should be made more prominant... as you can see i'm not too keen on arriving on a thumbnail page.
what do other folks feel?
hmmmm.. that reads like i am angry, it's not supposed to! :)

I love how this is working:
My only suggestion would be to make the navigation "Portfolio | Contact Details | Blog | Downloads" had written as well.
And I have no issue with the current method of viewing the work, without the thumbnails, but just clicking to proceed to the next image.
Diggin your style Nathan. A definite boormark add to my collection.
