i need to get a passport to travel overseas (europe). i called the post office and they said 12-15 weeks waiting for regular channels. 4-6 weeks for expedited ($60 charge).
anyone deal with this lately? i've heard it's tougher to get one.

The expedited is worth it. I think i got it in like 3 or 4 weeks to get mine... oddly enough, a week longer than my wife's who get hers at the same time.

Yeah same here on the wait...I finally got around to applying for my passport last month and I should be getting it in Aug.
12-15 weeks is the norm now I believe.

Submitted my renewal in March and just got it in June.
12 weeks on the nose, but i didn't opt for the faster service.

If theres a passport agency within a resonalbe distance you should be able to make an appointment and then go and get it the next day and only pay the extra $60.

Some little country could make a heap of money if they'd issue passports to anyone who asks, overnight, for $100.
It'd be a a perfect business for, like, The Cayman Islands. Or The Vatican City. Maybe Bangladesh?
Man, I'd love to have a passport from Mauritius. Or Sweden.
Hell, I'd collect the whole set.

A friend of mine got his in less then a month last spring. He went to the Passport office and paid 10 dollars more. He had to pick it up personally though. Last I heard the lines aren't to bad anymore, and at least in Vancouver they're giving you a time to return instead of making you wait inline all day.

Is the US passport office sending people to Vancouver to pick up their passports?
