I hope you're making shark movements and noises right now, because that'd be adorable.

I hardly have reason to come to surface anymore. I wade through frozen waters.

I could field this one, but I tend sound like a broken record when it comes to what Toronto is like creatively, and now that I've been gone for close to 2 years, I have no idea what it's like currently...
Overall it's quite dry, but also like anywhere else, there's some really good small studios that pay shit or consist of 2 people.. I'd be hard-pressed to think of studio doing really great work..
I just hope everybody still hates Bruce Mau...

(Jun 2 07, 09:01)Not hate - but i'm kinda driven to despise when graphics get too fashionable, social, political and stupid - and pretend to be a solution for anything.
That really pisses me off. It's just vectors! It's not even all that clever.
I don't like this designer presumption. I've also lost jobs because of it - but I don't care.
I'm not feeding a stupid monster.

ignore me if you wish - but that's how I think.

Underwater kingdom tour!

wow ..I'm just surprised to see a Newmarket thread on NT.
but yeah .. .decent place to live .. suburban edge of the GTA basically. It drops off completely any further north.
But yeah, you'd definately be finding work in the city only. Unless you want to do local small business identity design and stuff like that.

^ you see?
no people ever agree, but somehow they do. but not completly.
lol. that's wicked.
- czawada0
Wait a second, people actually choose to live in Newmarket?
- M0NEYCIDE0
newmarket sounds like a boarder town gone wrong, but i don't know anything about it or even heard of it. ontario sucks anyway.
- Jaline0
Witt, I bet you like that ;)

(Jun 2 07, 18:23)lol! Spoken like a true person not from Ontario and living somewhere else in Canada.

Jim,
I would suggest you actually live downtown. This way your lady will go against the traffic grain on her commute to work (from what I've seen, the transit system is madness for those who come into the city), and you guys will actually have lives in the evening.Newmarket, Markham, North York or anywhere but downtown Toronto (say, south of Lawrence Ave) will all disappoint you as places to live, I promise!

still nothing chris... or were just pulling my leg?

* Receives high-five from Neue
Yes, as far as I know everybody still hates Bruce Mau.
I'll say what I've always said about Bruce Mau: he's one of the best design writers ever.
As for the question about finding work here. Well, I guess it's the same as everywhere else. Grab your book and approach agencies.
Maybe post a thread asking for a list of the Toronto agencies. I'd list them now but I'm tired and going to bed.
- Jim_t0
Thanks, I can probably just google for agencies unless someone has a list to hand?
So newmarket sucks...what about Markham?
- Visia0
lol, now you're just moving laterally ;)
Basically, the short of it is that you're really going to want to live as close to downtown as possible because the following are not places that you want to live:
Newmarket
Thornhill
Markham
Mississauga
Brampton
Scarborough
VaughanEtobicoke is nicer in the southern part and North York isn't the worst place on earth due to it's approximation to Toronto.
But, yeah, all the ones listed up there are suburbs of Toronto and are basically nothing but houses and stripmalls.
