I'm allergic to the beatles.
Jaline, this book is a brilliant insight into the man's mind:

"Both Moon and Dweezil took the California high school equivalency test at fifteen, which is the earliest age the law allows, so they both have high school diplomas. We're going to do the same for Ahmet and Diva. I want my kids out of the California school system as soon as possible."Hey, the whole book is here:

the annoying thing is that because some very famous, very talented people took drugs, others see it as a short cut to good work.
The truth is that hendrix played best when he was clean. The fact that he still sounded great on drugs is a testament to how talented he was, not that drugs are performance enhancing, they're quite the opposite.
We also have drugs to blame for a lot of the self indulgent music of the 60s, stuff like the greatful dead (I never did like their hour long jam songs) even some of hendrix's more pyschadelic songs aren't anywhere near as good as his more well known songs.

Yeah, good point, but still doesn't hide the fact that they were Junkies..
If you've ever heard Jimi Hendrix and Jim morrison Jam together then you wouldn't say he sounded great on drugs either.

saint - i'm due for a new book. that zappa one looks quite interesting. thanks.

Well BaskerviIle... I'm afraid you can't have one without the other.
You can't have rock without the roll. Because then as you said - all you're left with is "design" rather than "art".
If hendrix was still alive today - and likely "clean", his music would almost be guaranteed to be rubbish.
Half of these peoples' fame is probably down to never having the chance to produce a hummer...

mte, sorry to break it to you but Jimmy was completely wasted right the way through his best period - he might have 'played' better straight, but his tunes were coolest when he was bugged out of his head on anything he could get his hands on. Soz.
True, if he couldnae play in the first place, they would have been rotten.
Anyway, its coke that turns you shit, not smack. Doherty has nae excuse.

very true.
it's the whole 27 club thing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_…some great alumni there, great but very much dead.
Speaking of zappa, I saw dweezil last summer on his 'zappa plays zappa' it was incredible. He gathered together old zappa collaborators like napoleon murphy brock and terry bozzio. Dweezil himself has really been studying the guitar and put a lot of effort learning very complex pieces like inca roads and the black page. It was great to hear it all live.
He even played a duet with his dad (via some old video footage) which brought chills down my spine, a really great show.

He looks about 12 there for some reason. Shame he is a crack head. good times

Yeah, he's known for that baby, puppy-dog look.
