I think the music industry as a whole needs more drugs in it.
I work next door to the Astoria and see kids (and some grown ups) sat out there from 8am to get in to a McFly gig.
I went down the line and slapped everyone of them I did.
Then I sold the younger ones LSD and copies of Captain Beefheart CD's.
There is something very, very wrong when the music kids are listening to doesn't offend their parents...

I guess it depends whether you're making music for yourself or to sell to people.
It's the difference between art and design.
To me a lot of music is art, that was created by the artist for themselves, but even more nowadays is design – music that is created by producers and labels to sell to customers, moving with trends etc.Not sure where Doherty fits into all of this, I'd say he is an artist but not a very good one, a bit like Tracey Emin – pops up all over the place, very public but better known for their behaviour than their work,

I think pete Doherty has had and continues to have a massive impact on the music that we're seeing out at the moment from the Guitar driven bands.
I think it's a shame his talent isn't recognised more. All people focus on is the drugs, Oh what a shame he does the drugs. What do think Lennon was doing? (smack) what was Cobain doing? (smack) Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin! All these great musicians/song writers. If they were in the media frenzie, gossip driven environment, we live in today, would probably be talked about in the same way as peter.
The fact is, he is the first big singer song writer to have this type of "rock & Roll" lifestyle where news is instantly accesable and global

I like these videos, since they provide a refreshing view of Doherty.
However, I still don't have much respect for him. His behaviour is definitely focused on more than his music, but that's his OWN doing.

I don't give a monkeys what his tunes are like, he's a wee cock. end of. I've known far more interesting junkies, the bam.
- BaskerviIle0
lennon without drugs = genius songwriter
hendrix without drugs = genius musician and innovator
doherty without drugs = mediocre songwriter and 'bohmenian'

pete doesn't give a fuck 'bout this thread, he'd probably piss on it first, then fill it with junk, write a thought poem with his blood and finish off with a sexfest with kate in a 5 star NYC hotel. what a wanker

i wish people would get over the beatles and lennon and focus on the far more interesting music being made at the time.
They really pale in comparison from where I stand.

I agree, moth. People always think I'm being ridiculous when I say that though, haha.
- Jaline0
But I also get why people say, "You to have been there."
It's a bit condescending though.

(May 23 07, 07:03)yeah those hippies are all strung out, messing around with the syntax in their sentences, not talking one bit of sense.
for what it's worth, I love the beatles as I was brought up on them, I respect what they did for pop music, but at the same time, you had people like Zappa making some of the most amazing, progressive, intellectual music, which is much more interesting to me now. so I agree with moth on that.

(May 23 07, 07:13)yeah, he was really cute. In a way I never noticed before.
I like making discoveries like this.
I still don't change my opinion a whole lot though.

I was gonna say.. Zappa, Beefheart...
That's where it was.
Plus I think the Beatles famed drug-taking wasn't all that - in fact - I don't believe they EVER took drugs, because if any normal drug-using person came too after writing the fucking monstrously awful, horrific, "Yellow Submarine", they'd surely have walked into the sea without one....
- rafalski0
Zappa didn't take drugs.
