If a headhunter contacts you, is that a sign that someone's heard of your reputation, or someone internally is trying to get rid of you?

(May 16 07, 04:30)yes.
to be more precise, it could be either. my company, creatis, here in minneapolis, works on outsourcing from clients such as best buy, target, and a few others. they try to lessen the burden and will take on employees of these companies if such action is needed.
but kezza, i guess the only way you may know, is to give the hh a shout back.

A little of column a and a little of column b.
Could be a friend of a friend recommended you or some such. As jaylarson said though, only way to find out is to get in touch with them.
And best of luck if its the former.

the last time one contacted me out of the blue, i think it was because of nt, to be honest.

there are many who pay for services to scan the web for portfolios w/ critical key words then they suck down the site/link and the portfolio link.
not trying to burst your bubble by any means, but if it is really random and they do not reply to your reply asking how they found you, prolly a safe bet it was the prior method.

"Yes you were a referral from someone not from within your own agency but from
within the industry. The person asked to remain confidential, something I will have to adhere to.
There was no indication you were unhappy or looking to move on, simply that you
are someone talented whom I should be speaking with. Hope you can take that as a
compliment. "

Why would a headhunter want to represent someone that a company is trying to get rid of?
They probably found you through the internet or someone you worked with in the past.
If you posted your resume or link somewhere on the web, they must have found you. They spend a lot of their time seeking out us designers in all possible ways.
