RE: 3D software. Steer me...

So I'm 10 years out of the 3D game and I'm looking to dip my toe back in. As such, I'll need a book and/or a class and possibly a software purchase...and as I have no trust fund, I'm asking for your guidance. 3DS? Maya? Lightwave? Cinema 4d? Who has the juice? It's all clicks and whistles to me at this point.
I'm looking for relative ease of use...a respectable set of balls...double-duty integration into web/video/fabrication (see: CAD output) projects if applicable...and my initial focus will be more on product + environment design/rendering than character work and/or heavy + tedious animation. Blahblahblah.
Ohh yeah...mac friendly of course.

I recently jumped back into 3D and went with Cinema 4D. Lots of power, reasonable price, and the learning curve seems managable.
Integrates with After Effects and Photoshop really well.

C4D here too.
started with AutoCad 13yrs ago. then to Form-Z, 3dMax and most recently Rhino3D. stopped doing it for 3-4yrs and now back in with C4D.
i love it.

Christ. I'm having one of those out-of-the-loop moments. Like when the roster to the MTV Video awards is rattled off in a commercial and I'm left with a reasonable idea of who maybe 10% of the people are.
So C4D...tell me what you hate about it.
PS...Ward...the reel looks great. It took quite a little bit to load, fyi. I'm thinking 3 minutes or so on an office connection. Just a heads up.

i tried blender. its interface threw me off and i think it's the most un-intuitive 3d program i've ever tried.

Imo, it have the best from all the other programs. There is a 30 day full trial.

We use 3D Studio, but that's because of compatibility, not that it's the best. There are just tons of resources out there (cars, mocap data, trees, etc.) that are not available for other programs.
It's PC only, too, and it's too expensive.
I'd second the Cinema4D (just in case no one else spelled it out) and Modo is looking really promising.

I personally reckon people use c3d here generally because they all use macs! But if you're using a PC, I'd personally opt for softimage, it's very user friendly :)
