it's not even cultural. its just pure hatred.
couples in northern ireland used to have to go into hiding aswell if they married outside their religion...

my point in that letter was not that religion is to blame for all the world's problems like jox said, but that people twist religion to suit their personal agendas.
People are to blame for all atrocities ever done in the name of God or Allah or Jehovah or Vishnu. We are our own worst enemies.

it's just our tribal minds.

(May 4 07, 09:54)it is most definitly cultural. the scale of magnitude for crimes is far and away a relative thing across cultures.
and, to that end, stoning in ireland was a practiced, 'common' artifact of history for many centries.
i still feel it is inhumane, but nonetheless, a cultural occurance.

i have memories of the stories my family would tell me of the horrors they had to endure when living in iraq, this is the same just a different century.
iraq is a disgusting place.

(May 4 07, 09:20)yeah, eddie, my parents know a lot about that stuff too, and, sadly, stoning occurs more often than one would think. Mostly because of the whole "different religions" thing.

i dont mean "Stoning" isn't cultural. the modes of killing is cultura.
i mean the way warring communities are apalled by interbreeding between the two and resort to murder out of disgust.
i think that's prevalent across all cultures, most whenever you have deeply divided cultures/ethinicities/religions etc.

difference in culture
tragedy indeed
horror to westernized culture, but may be norm to others.

(May 4 07, 09:25)what a load of relativist bullshit
fucking dumb thing to say.
btw - link the video? i feel like crying...
FrdmOfSpch
(May 4 07, 09:26)yeah, except what MrD is saying is actually true. I know women who are not opposed to this. If more people don't want change compared to those who do, then it is immensely difficult to change the thinking of the people in that country.
All this war-related stuff going on around the world seems very hopeless to me right now.

cant they modernize it a little?
- FrdmOfSpch0
oh shut up Jaline.
That is fucking disgusting no matter who you ask.
The only people who would applaud it are those involved.
And it is not the fucking norm to anyone, it's an abhorration produced during the time of great social upheavel - in particular, civil war.

such an evil thing to do to another human being ... especially over love ... whaaaat???
that whole region needs to be shaken up like an Etch -A-Sketch and we will begin from scratch

no one does
- brooke0
This is the saddest thing.
- Jaline0
Guess you haven't heard of objectivity...
- Jaline0
By the way, no one ever said that stoning is the right thing to do. It's obviously disgusting.
Re-read my post, and you'll see I'm right.
- madirish0
honestly, Jaline is right.
duh.....
:)
- ********0
Jaline is right.

iPods...they would have to be the bigger ones....
- FrdmOfSpch0

MrD
(May 4 07, 09:25)what's wrong with that statement, FrdmOfSpch?
- Jaline0
By the way, again, no one is saying that the stoning was the right thing to do.
