oh Dukie... you still need mommy and daddy to wipe your ass too?
who gives a shit about how much money they spend to send you there...
... you telling me that you're 'not' an adult now?
This is the first time I've heard someone play up the fact that they're a 'kid' in college and they need they're mommy and daddy.
Of COURSE Universities have security in place... so do large corporate campuses...
... but do you really think ANY of them are equipped to handle a 'lone mad gunman'?
You're demanding perfection... you won't get it.

ACTUALLY PONYBOY
I am 25 and still in school, because I had to take time off and save money so I could pay for school because my parents couldn't afford it
so eat me

why schools? it's often in/to schools that this happens.
why not at other public places?

its not perfection it's common sense

v5, I understand where you're coming from - truly. This kind of event blinds people with either anger or sadness and they forget what happened and whom it happened to. Kind of what began to happen in this thread. Though I don't post too often, I always find your opinions interesting to read.
You can't, however, deny the tragedy here. marginalising it doesn't help anyone either. imagine what kind of a world we'd live in if we all walked away from the holocaust saying "they were alive, now they're dead let's leave it at that"

I am so far removed from guns.
Here's Jersey's news for the day http://www.channelonline.tv/Even now i do a double take when I see a policeman with a firearm because they're so alien to me.
That said however, there is apparently a large arsenal of private weaponry over here and a few gun nuts. It wouldn't surprise me for St Helier to have it's own Hungerford one day.

people really need to stop comparing every other tragedy to the nazis...
jeezus.
- PonyBoy0
ohhhhh dukie... there there...
... some of also put ourselves through school...
... *sniff
... what is COMMON SENSE?
It's common sense that after one shooting of two people that appears isolated... that you 'lock down' 100+ other buildings?
Yes... you go get right on that... use your perfected 'common sense' as you say... and go direct that shit. I'd love to see how 'perfect' your delivery of 'safety' is.
.... lolz @ 'eat me'...
... easy tough guy!!

yeah when people are shot in a lecture hall I would think that would call for a lock down...espically when they don't know where or who the shooter is
at my school there are cops guarding the residence halls main entrance not student RAs
I would think that would be a common sense move
and we are not talking about some small po dunk school we are talking about a major university with what 25000 students
- IRNlun60
dukie, that's alot to ask for. this can happen anywhere; highschool, college, work place, mall... should there be a lock down policy for every public place?

Ponyboy, reporters are doing what they've always done. To expect them to change the way they ask questions at a press conference is a lost cause. Maybe it seems like it'd be easy to change that...I mean...they could have them take turns and actually come up with meaningful questions, but even the reporters are in awe of what has happened and are in a rush to get the story. First and foremost, they are trying to do their job. And without them the public wouldn't actually know anything.
Just as the police officers are, and for that they should be given a break. I don't agree that they would've easily been able to capture the killer within those two hours. That's just unrealistic.
Security probably did all they could, although the timeline and not getting the rest of the students off campus is bit sketchy. Then again, it makes sense to block off just one building (where the first two shootings occurred) and not cause panic everywhere else by evacuating and/or warning people through the P.A. system .

(Apr 16 07, 14:25)yes...why is that an insane thing to ask for???you are containing the incident
it is the job of the facility management to have a plan of action for a fire, which can happen anywhere and at anytime. why should it be any different for a shooting? Espically when they are becoming more common.

I just hope the kid who did this doesn't go down in history as some demi-god to twisted youth and get movies, books and toys made after him.
