but where can i get a GUN LEG!?!?
barbtastic
(Apr 16 07, 13:11)I was wondering the same.

It's frustrating how they don't answer any questions. Why have a press conference then? To fill up time on CNN?
Seriously.
Because I KNOW they know whether or not the killer had on a bullet-proof vest. They just don't want to give that answer out. Which I'm fine with, but at least be honest and/or don't have a press conference where you act like you "don't know" anything, because then it seems like you weren't making the best decisions during this time.

dukie...
... is campus security supposed to be able to read minds?
Who EVER is prepared for something like this?
I watched the press conference too - the reporters were asking some pretty stupid shit...
... it hasn't even been 12 hours yet - they're supposed to react and answer w/perfection?
come on... give these guys a little time to understand themselves what just went down.
- madirish0
this makes me sick.
- Jaline0
No one can really make sense of what happened, nor do I expect them to have answers right now. And yes, the reporters were asking stupid questions. I just found it frustrating to watch a press conference where no questions were answered. Perhaps they should be more articulate then, or not have the conference go on for so long.
- Jaline0
And I'm sure they have a lot of information already...just not ready to give it out to the public yet.

yeah, i'm just sying that if you are researching this behavior, maybe there's a key starting point or relationship.

(Apr 16 07, 13:34sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought your comment was silly or obvious or whatever...
I hope you didn't think that. The tone in my head was more, one of agree-ence. (
- Jaline0
I kind of agree, harlequino. But I think there's a different mind-set for people who kill others and then kill themselves, compared to people who just kill themselves. There are some similar issues though, and possibly when someone is about to commit suicide they start to think about the things that got them at that depressing point in their life, and even the people involved, and then probably get enraged. Then remember they have a weapon, and use it to its full potential.

you too Jaline... I think you're asking way too much of these guys (campus security... the authorities)...
... they need time to understand what just went down...
... this isn't an 'ordinary' security issue. One or two murders - a suicide... a rape... those are much different situations...
... not to mention - they can't give out too much info on the shooter or the victims until the victims families have been notified and all that is cleared up etc...
... give it time - you can't expect 'answers' to these questions immediatly... especially STUPID ONES like... 'was the shooter wearing a Bullet proof vest?'
.... how about... 'What steps are being taken to notify the families?'... 'Is there anything we as a community can do to help?'...
... honestly - these people in authority are as confused as everyone else - they can't foresee something like this...
... the reporters asking the stupid questions (just so they can get a question in) are a joke... they should really back the fuck off and let these men and women work on the case and contact the families.

I'm curious what Jaline's thoughts are on this

(Apr 16 07, 13:57)I wasn't disagreeing about the police officers. I realize they're having press conferences to inform the public, but they're actually not informing anyone. Just talking to ease people's minds and/or inform them of things they already know. That's why I'm a bit frustrated. And of course they're not going to give out all the information.
I disagree about the reporters though. What kind of reporter wouldn't be asking questions right now?

(Apr 16 07, 13:54)I took deep offense, and have been rubbing mink oil on my fists of fury since i read that.

J/k, I figured as much.

are you listening to the tone of some of these reporters? They're almost 'demanding' answers like they're owed them - like the public is 'owed' answers too...
... and we are...
... just not yet. Not even 12 freakin' hours went by...
... now to have a press conference to start things off makes sense... but to ask such stupid questions... in such a demanding tone is really lacking some serious respect for the families of the victims and the officers who are trying to figure out this mess.
Again... this isn't any 'typical' scenario here...
... you can't expect the authorities to be on top of everything just yet.
No one expects these things - you can train for them (which it sounds like they do)... but you NEVER know how something like this will go down.
Let's just wait a few days and see what comes of the investigation.

I'm still surprised nobody considers this an act of terrorism.
- PonyBoy0
it IS an act of terrorism.
Of course... terrorism has multiple definitions these days.

robotron3k
(Apr 16 07, 14:03)i agree. but, terrorism implies a political motive and who knows what his motive was right now.

of course you can put a campus in lockdown, and refuse further entry onto campus grounds
when parents spend 14-20k a year to send their CHILDREN to college you would expect a saftey plan to be prepared
and when was the last time you have were on a college campus most kids can't balance a checkbook- they are in no way adults
I know I am still in college
