is it possible? any kind of PC based parallel software out there?
- rafalski0
not legal and a lot of hassle.. macs are cheap now, like used white macbooks for $700.. I think they were $800 in refurb store not so long ago

Friend of mine is running a VM with OSX on Linux.. :)
- CockDiesel0
very possible. Just do some searching.
- Brookoioioi0
Yeah, VM ware, lets you do anything...

There was a thread on this a few months back you might find it. I only seen it once being emulated on PC and it ran really crappy.

Why not get a used/ refurbished intel mac and run Bootcamp?
- Boz0
I'm always amazed by ignorance from people who run Macs and all-is-possible-on-a-Mac approach. If Mac can run Windows XP..a PC can run OSX..all you need is the right version of the boot image for the disk..buy a legal copy of OSX and reimage the disk with this new boot image. Everything else is just like installing on a Mac. You put the DVD in, you start the computer and go through OSX installation. that's about it.
if you really need it, look for JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3
in Google

I don't get it.. why buy a legal copy of OSX if you're going to make an illegal installation of it?..
- Boz0
I'm not encouraging illegal installation, but this disk has a boot image you can use and create your own disk by just simply recording the original disk with boot image.
Get my point?
- cacoe0
It is illegal to do though. Somewhere in the legal blarb that you usually skip past when you install os x
- rafalski0
to clarify: it is illegal to install osx on a non-apple machine
- Boz0
but it's legal to pay a hacker to crack the Windows XP to enable beta Bootcamp? I mean come on...
I buy a copy of OSX I can do whatever the fuck I want with it.

May Jesus forgive you for starting this thread.
- cacoe0
Yes it can be done, although whether your hardware will support it is another matter. You need a SSE2 processor at least SSE3 is better. Only a hand full of video cards are supported, even less sound cards, some wifi (mostly rt2500 based stuff) and a few other bits and pieces. I've heard very good things about it though. From people that have spent a while getting it working though.

Boz, if it's really that easy... that's exciting news
- honda0
It's not that easy. The cost actually adds up to the amount of a used/refurbed mac. Like cacoe said, making sure you have 1. the right processor is key and 2. understand that you will be limited with components. the X86 project is cool but got killed off when apple stopped supplying driver updates. Which will be the biggest thing that hinders your progress. It's not as easy as some suggest and it is a pain to get going. once running, the cool factor wears off when you realize how much more work is needed...
- cacoe0
Having said that, I just looked into it and practically all my components are compatible and I'm gonna install it shortly. Huraaaar!

I know someone, ahem, that has a dual boot 'hackintosh' running on an intel (2.5) and beleive it or not, it's LIGHTNING fast compared to it's diskmate, windows xp and his G4 at work.
Just a note here. If you do install, backup everything. You can seriously f*** uo your machine.
Happy law and computer expectations breaking.
Now if Apple would just give up on the hardware business and release it's OS for intel machines of all stripes, there would be something interesting.
