THE KINGS OF NEW YORK:
THE COMIC BOOK STORES OF NEW YORK CITY

i gave away my secret invasion books. i was annoyed by the crap ending and all that build up for what?!? it just ended rather poorly.
a typical bendis ending... mehim also not really into the dark reign that coming for 2009.
all the books i usually read i will now probably drop as the character rosters on those books are dramatically changing to all the dumb characters...ive been reading a lot of the reviews in the comic book blogs and mostly every post matches my own in regards to the secret invasion storyline... it started out great in #1 and quickly fizzled out by #8... i mean #1 had BOOM!! ZOOOM!! BANG!! KAPOW!!! there were Skrulls everywhere!!!! and they had warships and every power imaginable and they still lost!??! wat the hell!!?! and killing a founding member avenger and not giving her enough pages towards her death was bad...
sorry flav but i am not a fantastic four fan at all and i was really annoyed that the FF4 had so many pages in #8 towards them and 3 panels of the baxter building rebuilding itself?!?? stupid!!! they could have easily had those panels focusing on the death of the wasp or even seeing new captain america bond with thor...
speaking of thor... what exactly did he do?? i couldnt see any of it from the panels...
these giant cross over books always end poorly... to show all the people who were taken by skrulls just hanging out in the war ship above was ok but show us where they were being held not just hanging out in a room like they had all the freedom to figure it out... i wish i seen them all in test tubes with wires and machines all around them in captivity and or dead, for them to just all be alive was dumb...
meh...
end rant...
- To be honest, there shouldn't have even been a Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four, series. It seemed to be an afterthought.********
- afterthought. It held almost zero reasoning and could have been incorporated in the main arc.********

Possible spoilers:
I'm with you eddE. Another budding storyline built up very well to a very MEH ending. Not sure why this happens with pretty much every major storyline in Marvel, but it gets me every time. At least the journey is better than the destination I guess. But still, I told myself after World War Hulk that I wasn't going to follow a storyline month-to-month anymore. And that I was going to wait until it was over to read them so it wouldn't be such a let down, but I couldn't.
There was way too much going on, or not going on rather, in the last issue. You're dead on ... Thor & Wasp !? What the hell happened?! Why the hell didn't Thor do that ... to every Skrull in the beginning? Why did it take that for the Earth Hero/Villains to get "pissed"? That was a reaaaaaaal corny ending even by their standards in Norman offing Jessi-skrull.
The issue should have been double-sized so it could have given it the room it needed to explain the crap ending they had. Unless they realized it was crap and tried to throw as much visuals in there to try and appease one half the brain at least. The Wasp thing was literally like 2 small panels and gave the reader a lot of assumptions to figure out what happened ... despite gruesomely killing a lot of people leading up to this.
Oh and the last page? Yes, somewhat saving grace. However, that group has been over a year in the making. Well, I should say the grouping that makes sense (Doom, Loki & Namor - from the Namor Limited Run late 07/early 08; and the early Thors).
Seriously? Emma Frost and Norman Osbourne? They are so not on their level it's disgusting to think D/L/N would ever stoop so low. The Hood is kind of strange as he is obviously possessed but has the inane ability to keep it under wraps. So perhaps from that level he may quasi belong, but he still really hasn't done anything to merit kicking it with Doom and Loki.
Good things:
- Deadpool is back.
- Doom is back.
- Namor is back.
- Tony Stark looks to be going underground and will redeem himself in most readers eyes from the past few years ... which will probably have that storyline ending for the Iron Man 2 Movie.Bad things:
- Spider-Man's Brand New Day is still happening, haha.
- "Lasting Effects." Oh ... seriously. Are people actually going to be mad at the heroes/ villains who were abducted? I mean ... no. It's not Jessica Drew's fault, she shouldn't be held accountable at all.I'm probably going to be cutting back even more after this. I'll keep tabs on Doom of course, but ... who am I kidding, I'll be hook line and sinkered for the next storyline next year.
P.S. I wrote a longer schpel but somehow it didn't post.

in #8 especially... the panels didnt read well from one to the next it is like is was just pushed out and from comicbookresources page by page review i didnt see what they were trying to explain with fury and his 2 ex pals... the art didnt flow well... the art itsellf was good but it didnt tell the story as a grand one... was a shame to see it come this way... reminded me of the image marvel cross over from last decade... too many characters and not enough story so that book just failed for me.... #8 could easily have been 2 books but bendis initially wanted it be even smaller instead of 8 issues... psssh!!!

STEVEN GRANT TALKS “WHAT IF? SPIDER-MAN: BACK IN BLACK”
In the 1968 film “If,” Malcolm McDowell's character Mick Travis uttered the line, “One man can change the world with a bullet in the right place.”
Last year, the world of Spider-Man underwent major changes when a hitman's bullet struck Peter Parker’s beloved Aunt May. But what would have happened if the bullet struck Peter's wife, Mary Jane Watson? How would Spider-Man's world be affected?

I´m not that into comics, but Mike Mignolas "Amazing screw-on head" was an epiphany to me. I was wondering if there was comparable work out there, scenario/story/humour-wise, besides the hellboy/bpdr series. Any suggestions?
- e-pill0
offcourse there is...
you should visit your local comic book store and ask the people there to help show you other mike mignola work or stories written towards what you want, you will see a ton of books, writiers, artists... that will touch upon your tastes..
do it!!! get back into comics!!!
