Most of these community sites suck when it comes to the actual look and usability. But people swarm to them, so they must be doing *something* right.
I joined Facebook more than a year ago when it was even more sucky-looking. But it was actually better then, with mainly university and college students allowed. Now it's turning into a MySpace clone, which is primarily a bad thing.

Wow, it's worse than I thought. I just checked out the site and they've got these new applications now. Which means you will get like 20 requests to join things and put extra things on your profile all the time. Sucks.
Bring the old Facebook back, geez.

Well...because everyone else I know is on it and it actually is a way that I can keep in contact with my family. Seriously, I never use IM or email to contact them. I just keep up with their activities through Facebook (not that I visit it that often).
