"Fuji’s stated goal was to attempt a more “film-like” look to the files from this camera. With the expanded dynamic range that the FinePix S3 Pro offers, it’s now possible to obtain greater shadow and highlight detail at the same time. This sensor now has a wider dynamic range than transparency film, so can matching and exceeding color negative film be that far off?"

"The Super CCD SR II Sensor: All right, I know this is what you’ve been waiting to hear about. After all, this is the main reason for the new camera. And while other manufacturers have taken a “more megapixels is better” approach, Fuji departed from the mainstream and developed a chip that has greater dynamic range and a more film-like look to it. Sounds great you say, but does it actually give me a better picture? The short answer is yes. Can you make bigger prints? Yes. Will quality be improved? Yes. "

I guess it's not 2 chips, but 2 photo sites per pixel

wow,
this is very very promising. for now, i have to keep my D80, but in the future, i hope nikon start using fuji sensor over sony.

I'm wondering about the new EOS-1D Mark III chip filtering down to the cheaper canon models

i can't wait to see them. websense blocks flickr at work. sounds like a damn dandy camera. and if i remember your mercedes pics, they were, very rich tonally.
- jaylarson0
and those, the mercedes pics were taken with the s3?

Just so you folks knew how potent this thing is. I took Crouwel's strongly underexposed pic http://www.flickr.com/photos/vor… in a bloody JPG and played with photoshop sliders for just one minute. The amount of shadow detail shocked me a little, here's the quick result:
It was from a JPG, I can only imagine RAW capability.I don't see recent 10mp cameras based on Sony CCD sensor (sony alpha, nikon D200, D80, my pentax K10D) do that.
Canons (they're CMOS based) would get closer to that result though.

yes, jay.
photoshopped a lot though, but the amount of detail gave me great great flexibility in post production so to speak.
you should see the original haha

holy crap!
crouwel, this may be a dumb question, but what do you mean when you say "i never shoot fast?" did you take those flickr shots on a tripod or handheld?
- ********0
haha, i don't mean shutterspeed lol
what i meant with fast is that Nikon is faster - and Canon even more - in taking many pics at once, Fujifilm is rather slow, so not good for sports and stuff..
- ender790
aaaah, ok. i don't forsee doing much sports photography.
i want to get a dslr, and i've been doing a lot of research, so i appreciate your posts about your camera.
