Use what works at the time and what will hold up as long as needed.
I hate frames and iframes. There's much better ways of breaking up/refreshing content, IMO.
But, use what works for you and gets the job done.

i don't use 'frames' particulalry... but I often use 'i-frames' - generally to load images into for instance, saves loading the entire page each time and often makes updating sites easier

i use iframes on my site, but I have been thinking of changing. i am currently reading about fixed divs and i never heard of scrollable divs, i like the sound of it. knowledge about ajax probably wouldn't hurt too much either. thanks for the thread.

RoomFiveDon't need iframes to do that. just get the image element via the DOM and set the src attribute.

this seems like a good solution from frames:

everytime you implement an iframe a little creature is being run over by a vehicle somewhere.

frames are good and a natural part of webdesign. one that neglects using them just because there's a new trend over alistapart is a complete bastard and an idiot who doesn't have any clue of what a computer screen all is about. Gladly, trend-whores clear enough room for respectful work and that is why i'm still doing this shit: coz i wouldn't be capable of putting up with those iNext-Stuff idiots unless i had a room of my own.

Im scared of frames. Are they easy to use?
Im a designer, not a programmer, Jim.

frames are not a poignant part of web design any longer. there are appropriate technologies that are allowing this to die.
however if you'd like to live 10 years in the past and not be able to direct link to your specific project or page, have fun w/ frames
