this may be a dumb question.
Is there anything that will allow you type in CMYK values and it will spit back to you the closest pantone color it can find?

(Mar 6 07, 12:49)i believe you mean PS.. AI doesn't guess a Pantone# from CMYK (as far as i know).
- horton0
in PS just enter your CMYK in the picker and hit Color Library.
in AI you could open your pantone swatches and randomly look at CMYK values until something is close.

(Mar 6 07, 12:59)that said i've always been suspicious of pantones in PS and would recommend trying to find the correct conversion in AI for a more accurate value.

http://www.prepressforums.com/ft…a basic CMYK to spot converter (mac only)
haven't tested it, and it's not functioning perfectly, but i guess it does what you asked for

"Install them by saving them in your "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator CS\Presets\Scripts" or equivalent folder."
It's a good wee tool - Crouwel set me on to it a few months ago. It's just a shame that Illy doesn't have PShop's in-built functionality :(

Thanks much appreciated.
when i download this all it gives me is a safari file is this what I need or am I doing something incorrect?
- Nairn0
if by 'safari file' you mean a .js file, yes. just copy that into the aforementioned folder (or, presumably, Mac equivalent), restart Illy and then you can access the script by selecting a coloured object, then going to 'File | Scripts | CMYKtoPMS' and it should give you the nearest equivalent.

Thanks everyone.
Sorry, bout all the questions nairn...just a tad slow today.
