has nothing to do with design, it's in the business practice, for example - the attempt to rebrand Compton... image creation, slight-of-hand, smoke and mirrors is only an illusion if not backed up by positive practice over time
Practice what you preach and //ultimately make sure that if there's a pointy bit of something in the logo, it's pointing upwards...

(Feb 15 07, 05:38)that's pretty cynical .. even if it is 80% of the time true

Hey MX sorry for not being in touch about the video you would like me to assist with, I have been hella busy and guess what I have some crazy stoopid gumby fresh news to tell ye :D

actions speak louder than logos

It's something that has to develop overtime. The few companies that symbolizes that to me have went that extra mile in terms of service or did something beyond my expectations.
They have to level with me and don't bullshit me with corporate policies, refusing to respond to e-mails or having to talk to some twirp on a support line.
Even though I personally rarely rely on other people's suggestions and tips when it comes to restaurants to visit, cars to buy or airlines to fly with (IMO business' that will benefit having a quality brand)- word of mouth is a great way to spread good vibes.
Also, I like free stuff. *wink

it doesn't, but if your chat's good enough, you can persuade anyone of anything

btw - HI ANDREW!!!
- kelpie0
aye mx, get theee to the old skoll nters thread and give me some back chat, I was trying to draw you out...

well naturally.
At the same time we tend to trust a tick, which possibly helps verisign be trusted.
We also associate value and quality with medals, but with so many "gold medal" awards for this and for that it has most likely lost potency.
- emecks0
weeeeell, shite the kilt there's life after all!!!!
*wants serious answers to this, so heads off to old-skool-nters thread for hi-jinx

Through clever branding. The mark is just an identifier that's applied to branding materials.
Take innocent smoothies for instance, great name, ethos, copywriting, advertising, website, product, PR etc.

probably by having a striped down, simplified design
also .. not having any kind of enclosing element. open and honest.
- frankiefido0
simple; by earning it
- _salisae_0
not necessarily true there frank. i don't care if verizon solves the food crisis in africa their logo is not going to translate that
okay i do care but still

it can start by not trying too hard or being too offensive.
an unfamiliar brand can only really provide a sense of establishment, but [imo] it has to be the quality of product or service that drives my trust in it.
i'd, from the off, trust the product of a shitty mom'n'pop brand over the well-honed and marketed intent of some multi-hued amorphous blend of techno-widgetry that i felt had simply had loads of money thrown at it, in order to win me over. 'Me' being the tepid end-result of a marketing meeting and demographic breakdown.

a trustworthy person dressed as a criminal isn't going to get through a stranger's door
the message and the look should coincide

signs and signifiers and that what they signify
and summat to do with totems.
- Jaline0
yeah, what Kuz said.
