has nothing to do with design, it's in the business practice, for example - the attempt to rebrand Compton... image creation, slight-of-hand, smoke and mirrors is only an illusion if not backed up by positive practice over time
Practice what you preach and //ultimately make sure that if there's a pointy bit of something in the logo, it's pointing upwards...

(Feb 15 07, 05:38)that's pretty cynical .. even if it is 80% of the time true

i agree that it's all about which cycle the brain was washed on but if you have the opportunity to visually show a brand as quality then there are certainly means to create this

ok andy...
if i see a visual, that i see daily, like the milk carton in the mornings with my coffee, i see the logo everyday in the morning when i am awake, with myself and comfortable in my own environment that logo becomes something comfortable as a visual and i associate it when ever i see it outside of my comfortable envoironment i get that sense of "warm blanket" feeling as its like aroma therapy...like a memory clicks in and says yes good logo!!!
make sense?? if not since you at home smoke some weed and try looking at what i said.
should make some sense then maybe more.

it'd be more interesting to garner opinion from people who don't claim to have a design-tinge to their outlook. I might not be the best designer in the world, but i know that even i spend a lot of time analysing other people's efforts and working out their logic.
If you ask a happy consumer who actually quite likes comic sans, and doesn't see what the fuss is about, you'd probably be closer to what your boss is trying to latch on to.

neither edd-e, I'm at home sick and asking because my boss wants "ticks or smiley faces" to invoke trust...

Good to see that there is a wake in the afternoon after the morning funeral.

context.
its not the logo/mark that "creates" the connotation, its the context its in.

a trustworthy person dressed as a criminal isn't going to get through a stranger's door
the message and the look should coincide

it can start by not trying too hard or being too offensive.
an unfamiliar brand can only really provide a sense of establishment, but [imo] it has to be the quality of product or service that drives my trust in it.
i'd, from the off, trust the product of a shitty mom'n'pop brand over the well-honed and marketed intent of some multi-hued amorphous blend of techno-widgetry that i felt had simply had loads of money thrown at it, in order to win me over. 'Me' being the tepid end-result of a marketing meeting and demographic breakdown.

not necessarily true there frank. i don't care if verizon solves the food crisis in africa their logo is not going to translate that
okay i do care but still
