You have to think beyond the victim. I wouldn't be thrilled to run someone over with my car because they were careless. It's a law to prevent accidents.
You shouldn't be walking around with headphones and you shouldn't answer your cellphone while driving. I agree with that law.

They should ban NYC.

...so there's nothing to stop you walking across the street with earphones on and the iPod OFF, right? How would they enforce this?
(I don't think they could pass a law that says you can't wear earphones while crossing the street, as they would have to prove that there was still a significant reduction in hearing with the iPod off? there would be too many challenges...

I remember when I got my walkman when I was a tot. The head phones were like earbuds but went in the ear perpendicular instead of parallel.
The reason for this design? It was because of people getting hit by trains because they didn't hear them coming.
So my mother said to me when she gave it to me. "Remember to look when you cross train tracks."
Needless to say I've never been hit by a train.
Sound advice Mom, sound advice.

they should ban NYC from itself, and then since nobody follows the rules here anyway, things will be as they were anyway.
very simple.

Will never happen.

I still think this is great. Think about it. It reduces the risk of accidents because of dumb morons. Maybe you don't care about people being careless and dying, but let's say someone gets run over, then it creates a traffic problem and so on.
