I'm not 40 yet but I'm not far off. I design, art direct, play ps2, love watching crap action flicks, haven't got to grips with flash but I'm not scared by it, love spending money on gadgets, wear inappropriate tee shirts, wear trainers not suits etc etc etc despite the fact that I'm married and have a 3 year old son to contend with.
Adults are just kids with money after all. Designers even more so.
What was the question again?

how dare you! Designers don't get old, they mature!

(Feb 5 07, 12:22)I know I've done my share to reduce their incidious procreation.
Pigeons, not aging designers ... that is.

they become crackheads and sell fonts for drugs and then work at burger king and drink 40s until they die

well, personally I'm thinking about retiring at 39 and going back into bartending where I'll triple my annual income.

I think those boutique shops do pretty well actually. Some of the bigger name ones have about $400k-$500k per partner in annual billing. Not bad at all.

shouldn't you be busy with your homework, young lady?
- Rand0
I don't hate seals, either, young lady
- Jaline0
no homework pour moi, at least not until I have to study for my midterms next week.
First I have to skin Morrissey.

I would hate to think I'm in my twilight years as I approach my mid to late 30's. haha.
This job doesn't include a pension so i'll be working 'til they nail the lid on the coffin door.

(Feb 5 07, 15:07)Much appreciated. You don't have to be 40 to have done that either...

I'm a fair bit older than 40 and I too have been wondering this same point for many years. What do I do as get older?
At the moment I have my own business. I do plenty of "hands on" design work as well as BS "consultancy". All's well for now - but not sure how it will be in a few years time. I was lucky in that I was kind of ahead of the game with technology so I didn't get "left behind".
I have a family so I do need keep thinking ahead and working out how to stay in business.
