Picture this if you can.
75%K and 85%K page-background with 70%Cyan for detailing and some text.
Is this feasible for Digital or would I need a spot Cyan for the colour to punch out of the grey?
Anyone had previous experiences using these colours together b4????
Oh and can anyone recommend good printers in Basingstoke area?????

youre gonna get all CMYK on gray on a laser...

you have 2 blacks in the bg color on the page? are you over printing or something?

regardless, depending on how detailed the cyan elements are, make your black build with a % of cyan. not only will this help your trapping issues so there are no giant gaps where the bg knocks out, but the ink will also dry faster, esp. helpful if you plan on flooding the entire page.
digital is a completely different process altogether.

Only using 1 black,
Most of the page will be 75% black with a 85%black box in the middle, within the box will be the Cyan icon, which is detailed and quite small and white text.
If that makes things clearer :-/
The page is supposed to look a bit like the greys and cyans in this site, http://www.deletelondon.com/v1.1…

what's the final piece going to be? identity materials? like business cards and stationery? if so, pull out a Pantone book, or go look at one at a printer's shop, and pick your colors. this could be a 2 color job – a PMS dark gray and a PMS blue.
if it's for anything else, and especially if there are no existing corporate Pantone colors to worry about, I'd say go with digital, and you don't have to worry about any of the overprinting etc.
best bet is to find a printer and show them a PDF of the job. they'll offer up some suggestions/options.

Thanx guys,
my main concern and reason for the question is that im worried about the clarity of the Cyan on a massive section of dark grey.
If I go digital will the Cyan be less clear???

post the specific design?
if four color I would use a grey 4 color build instead of a % of black. If spot color I would use a solid pms grey. Is cyan all 100%?

If you are worried about clarity, DO NOT go digital, unless you go off a ridiculously tight machine. Digital clarity at your standard printshop will be crap. Better doing it properly off an offset printer. Doesn't always have to be expensive either. However, you will want to make a rich black for that process. In case you are unsure about the values for that, everyone has a different group of values. I usually use a blend of C=30 M=30 Y=30 K=100. This will create a very nice black, and also create more consistant coverage. So, make your swatch to the full values, and then take that black where you need it, back to 70%? Or was it 80%?
But, look around your area, and look for offset printers that can do this for you on the lower end of the pricing scale. Easily doable.
