Hello.
We just had one of our clients asking for a quote on doing some 3D work on housing plans they have given us.3 different houses and 2 apartment blocks.
So it would involve us using 3DMax to complete the building and then render out various images that they can use for promotional material.
We have never quoted for 3D work, but need to get some idea on what to charge, plus this isnt a one off job, there is a good chance of repeat work.
Any ideas anyone??
Cheers!

try and work out an hourly rate yr happy with and then work out how long the job will take. be wary tho - max can be very time consuming especially when doing visualisations if you dont have the experience and resources (defined materials etc) the more complex yr scene gets the harder yr PC will be made to work so make sure you have some good kit and try to plan renders for the evening. The render manager will allow you cue up and output different frames or sequences from yr scenes and animations

ta mate
just to give us a rough idea do you wanna send me an email on how much you would do a job like that for, really need something to go off as we dont want to over charge nor under charge.
we did ask someone and they said 2.5K for a weeks work and 4K for 2 weeks, that sounds right, but the company the quote is for might say thats a little to much

for a good pro in a major city that doesnt sound too bad, to quote it properly you need to know how many buildings there will be and the level of detail expected on each, are there interiors and if so are they furnished. Are you animating or just pulling out stills.
Lighting is one of the hardest parts and can take hours to sort out if you get it wrong.
You already know the client will pay a little under what you mentioned so just decide what you would happy to take for it against how much experience you have. and how much 5hit you could get into.
Good luck

cheers undo,
we are just doing external shots, so no interiors (thank god!)the list is 3 houses, 2 floors to each house & 2 apartment buildings with 4 floors.
again we dont have to do any interiors that was just a guide to how big these things are to model.
im guessing 2K sounds about right?

if you are modelling and rendering I would go with two weeks. Max 8 has architectural material libraries shipped with it so that could save you alot of time.

Thanks undo ill have a look into Max 8 and its texture libaries, that was one thing that puzzled me - how to get the right textures?
im sure the brick company they use have some kind of material samples? anyway ill check out Max 8!
thanks for the help mate!

forget scanning images of bricks etc unless yr doing close ups. Max libs are pretty good for archi work they already have the mats made up for you to apply and they seem pretty comprehensive.
there are loads of map and mat lib resources on the web, just google it
