Can the Fontbook application be deleted completly from your comp if you have Suitcase Fusion or Linotypes Font Explorer or doe's Mac OS X need it?

fontbook holds ur system fonts

yes, you can delete fontbook
no, it does not "hold your system fonts"

why delete it? just ignore it.
bad idea to delete any OS X apps.

when i deleted it, all my fonts just went bejerk
mainly on my browsers etc...
i had to format it to gain back the fonts,
i did load back the fonts in to linotype but would not work on system app such as safari etc

it's only a problem if you used fontbook to move your fonts to nonstandard folders. you should NEVER move the system fonts!!!
i do not have fontbook on any of my machines and they all work fine

i didnt move fron font book, i just got the fonts and moved them to linotype..
after that i deleted the fontbook.
after everything came out as ?????????????
which was fun. i used my computer like that for 3 months. it was like a guessing game. it was fun for a while

i dunno.. you gotta be really hurting for disk space if its worth saving the 6.4mb.

IOt's more to do with the 'two font managers on the one machine' thing, I've heard this is a bad idea.
Or are they talking about Suitcase & Liontypes as being the two font managers on the same system not Apples Font book?

Whenever I do a fresh install I toss all the unnecessary apps out, and FontBook most certainly makes that list.

Font book isn't a font manager. It's simply an app that will display previews of whatever fonts you have in your various font folders. It doesn't turn on or off fonts, so therefore, it does not manage. You can keep it and ignore it with nary a worry.

(Jan 16 07, 18:26)i think you meant to say font book is not a "good" font manager, as you are indeed able to turn fonts on and off with it. it just doesn't do much else
