I don't mind either director, but neither has an extensive film folio or anything.

For those interested in filmmaking nuts and bolts, Rodriguez has some of the best DVD commentary going. He really gets specific about how they made a scene work, how to get a higher production value for your money, etc. It's great.

Mimio, what about Brian Singer?

Not a fan of The Usual Suspects.

barb-
Most of the Depp's stuff in that film was his own idea. RR was like "Just run with it." Even the idea of doing a Marlon Brando impersonation for the priest scene. Haha.

(Apr 2 07, 08:00)ok, thanks, just wondering. I wasn't a fan of that film (as much as everyone else, I mean), but I think it's because the ending wasn't that surprising for me. This most likely has to do with the fact that I watched it last year, and so much has happened in film and to film audiences in the past 10-15 years.
Singer has good taste in projects, but not doing X3 kind of pissed me off.

Wow, I feel the exact oposite. Love Usual Suspects, can't stand any of his comic book stuff. Oh well. :P

I'm not into the whole comic thing in movies that's probably why I don't care for him. His direction in The Usual Suspects was very comic book-like even before X-men and Superman.

i'm glad to see rodriguez is doing some more adult type of stuff, since i wasn't into his spy kids stuff. but i dont think he's dont think he's hit his stride yet. tarantino's hard for me to appreciate since i'm not 15 years old anymore.

I liked it, but not as much as I may have if I had seen it when it first came out. I think that's integral to loving the movie more because of how twists in films have become more prevalent or expected as time goes on.

I felt similarly about usual suspects, jaline, but only cos someone had drawn an arrow pointing at spacey on the poster outside the cinema and written "this is the cunt" next to it.
loved that and apt pupil though, not keen on everything else - nothing in any of his comic ones comes close to the kidnap sequence in usual suspects.

I like the comic book films, but mainly Batman and X-Men. Even the shows Heroes and Smallville.
But they have to be done properly. Just for "entertainment" doesn't really cut it anymore.
That being said, maybe I like Tarantinto because I just got out of my teen years?

Caught the Austin premiere last wednesday. It was totally awesome. My bf liked RR's half, I liked Qt's. Deathproof is a chick flick.
- Jaline0
Jenny, Rosario Dawson was talking about how it is a chick flick. Good to hear from other people :)
