working for free allows you to do whatever you want. and if you really like what you're doing that is the best payment, in a way.
it's also much more zenbuddhamistical.

You guys are bush league, broke musicians always have drugs or a bandmate that does, get the drugs. Even if you dont do them. Sell them to other people you know who do them, make your money out of that and the next time someone wants you to give them something for free tell them to wash your car.

Seriously tho, I have traded work to bands for like an ounce of high grade marijuana (US$400), many times. Its great, you are always looking forward to the next meeting.

I tend to work for full rate or for free - nothing in between..
if you're friends with'em, do it for free entrance and some drinks.

do it for free but make them buy supplies, get some screens and some inks out of the deal
- mrdobolina0

I added some images to the sections and some text to the inks section. git in where you fit in.
- Seff0

- mrdobolina0
I never have either, oh well. we are trying to make it real home-grown I think. next week or so Ima expose a screen and see if lemmys wart can come by and shoot it.

You are a good guy mg33, thats why you gave the site and poster away for free more or less. I have done that too in the past when I was in school and needed an extra buck for booze and beer.
Now I would never touch anything that pays under
$50/h. Why? Well, because I have little sparetime and if I have to spend it working for someone else, they will have to pay for it. I don't see any carpenters building kitchens and windows for anything less than $50 or any other Joe Handyman for that matter.
Just because it's computer work instead of a saw and hammer doesn't mean it needs to be cheaper.Adding to the portfolio is okay, but do something imaginary but cool looking project instead of some half ass'd semi probono thing.

man, $40. I do that shit for a living right now, sort of.
the company I work for charges $30 for a b/w, $40 for 2 color RISO job, and $50 for full color. Then again, it's a labor of love. And I'm poor. I say $100 if it's an ADmat for them.
- Seff0
yikes

$40 is less than what they would pay to have one batch of posters printed for a show and you want to charge them that?
Unless it's gonna turn out to be some sick poster that looks great in your portfolio I'd pass.
