Can any of you creative chappies or chappettes tell me how best to make a nice, flawless, teardrop shape in Illustrator...
Many thanks if you know how to do this.

Some context might be useful - where's it going? what's the artwork style? etc.

Hi Nairn. I'm just playing really, so it's not 'for' anything, except my own amusement...
In my head it's like an icon, with a teardrop in a circle.
It's just the actual sketching of a perfect teardrop shape that I can't work out...
Is it best to draw a circle first, and then...em...something else...

draw a circle, and then above it attach the space between two crcles of equal size?
- RustyBadge0
Attach the space with what?
- rasko40
he measn put three circles touching in a triangle, two at the top, on at the bottom, centred, use your knife tool and join.

make a shape of the space by subtracting the 2 circles from another shape, then attach the resulting shape to the top of the circle?

I may be just hungover and stupid, but that didn't make any sense to me, Rand!
Um, Rusty - yeah, it is a little tricky, isn't it? Having had a fiddle, I can make a symbolic, uniform drop quite easily from a circle, but making a 'correct' looking illustrative one, with tapered top descending lines is a bit harder. Hmm.
The trick to making a simple drop is in aligning the starting circle to a grid, so that when you move the top-most point up you have a reference when using the Convert Anchor Point Tool.
To compensate for the difficulty in making the 'top descenders' taper, you can select the two side-most points and move them down slightly.
Christ, I hope that makes sense - I really am feeling stupid.

talk about mountains and molehills.

Okay, thanks for that. I'm not very good with Illustrator, and don't understand the knife tool...
I can see what I WANT to do, but the knife seems to do nothing! It just draws a few squiggles all over the place..!

explaining the visual with words is quite difficult. ever try this by using type to assist with the curves and proportions? two capital S's, (with one flipped horizontally) with the upper part of the letter removed, and the lower half lowered, would seem to make a shape that is easily changeable to suit yr needs.
sorry for the run-on sentence.

Thanks Nairn, that all kind of makes sense. I'll have a stab at it now...

Just as a point of reference, the knife tool will cut shapes up like an x-acto on a piece of paper. It's not for drawing shapes, per se.

dear god, I thought I knew how to make a teardrop shape in 5 seconds or so, but you guys just made my whole Matrix glitch
