my work computer is a dual 2.3 Ghz g5 with 5.5 GB of ram... the IT department would go ape shit if i put that at risk... my home computer is the quad core 2.5 ghz G5 with 4GB of ram I'd rather not risk her...she's my baby...
i have a g4 hooked up to a scanner but i doubt i could optimally run it on that...So I am kind of depending on all you risk takers...

last night i worked on a 12.67 GB psb(large document format) with over a 100 layers and even from my desktop it took about a half hour to open I hope that CS3 helps that out a bit...

the only risk i see is working a live job in a beta application then sending that file out and the next person down the line only being able to open up the composite data because CS2 won't recognize the new file architecture or those smart filters getting rasterized by CS2.

yeah, we're not using it for projects because of version incompatibility

since I'm the last link in the chain I always send PDF's to print so I'm not really worried about other people not being able to open files.
But I would never use it before sending PSD's further to other people

naw it's just some key art that gets repetitively used across a campaign and it's insanely large because each piece of the campaign scales it a little differently in the layout application. so at final output size the maximum DPI is actually only 220 but that's on the larger theater displays... It being a working file the damn thing has ever round of corrections in it also...

In the studio work we do all the designer's are required to send fully layered files then we rebuild them in 4-color if they are RGB and then we do rounds of color corrections/retouch and finishing/ mechanical adjustments/spot plates/bumpplates and other whizbang stuff the art director feels the campaign needs then we generate the final file and send it to print.

I would be sooo tempted to hit Flatten image and Save :)
Well, once the new CS3 package comes out, tell your IT crew to order you a MacPro, it really makes a difference now from the G5's

i work for a separation house that works mainly on home entertainment but we've been getting a lot of theatrical stuff lately...
somedays it's a production nightmare rebuilding a lot of these files... the studio we contract with has been known to use 52 different design agencies and that's just for home entertainment we used to never touch the theatrical stuff...

comping is fun.. my friend freaked out once because one of his comps was greenlighted and he couldn't find his working file... now that really sucks.
